Manifestation in the individual when the fever develops

Ajayi (2004) states that in the initial period the
malaria develops, the temperature of the affected person is usually irregular
because the malaria parasites develop and enter the blood stream at random. A
few days after massive deviation of parasites become synchronized to definite
hours of the day. This is why the pyrexia in malaria infection tends to be at a
regular time of the day. In some, the whole course of the disease is reduced to
a series of paroxysms, while in others there may be relapse. During this attack
period, there is sweating and tenderness over the liver and the spleen which is
associated with congestion and stretching of the organ capsules. The size of
the liver and spleen tends to increase with every re-infection.
In the chronic phase which is the repeated
infection with malaria, there is fibrosis of the spleen and there is anaemia
due to haemolysis.
