Limitations of Study

The study
is limited to the present Sapele Township which was designated as a second
class township in 1919 (Mobogunje, 1967) references will be made in the course
of the analysis to the Sapele urban district or the Sapele urban district
council which came into being as from 1951 as a result of the democratization
and politicization of local government policies in the former western region, a
situation that resulted largely in the creation of an urban environment for
Sapele.

Inevitably
other forms which can be regarded as forming the outer ring of Sapele urban
environment will be mentioned in the course of analysis such towns include
Mosogar, Jesse and Elume. These turns form the sub-urban area of Sapele.
With respect
to time perspective, the study examines urbanization process in Sapele as it
affects crime from the colonialism was a dominant factor in the growth of
urbanization in Nigeria and particularly Sapele which include the colonial
period would be incomplete. The introduction of capitalist mode of production
and enterprise brought about the colonialism were predisposing factors for
urbanization in Sapele.
