Lagos State CP, Umar Manko warns Cultists to Keep Off the State

The Lagos State
Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, has warned cultists and hoodlums to desist
from killing and causing mayhem in the state or face the full wrath of the law.

Incessant cult clashes in the state have led to the gruesome murder of about
four students of the Lagos State University, Ojoo early in the year.

Other residents have
also died in the hands of cultists in the last two months.

Speaking on
Wednesday, Manko, said the police will not allow criminals to have a field day
in the state.

He said: “Cultism
has been outlawed and anybody that is involved will be arrested and charged
accordingly.

“Cultists in Lagos State cannot have a field day. You cannot hide under cultism
and kill somebody. If you kill somebody and the case is investigated and you
are found guilty, the law would not say because you are a cultist so we should
let you go. No.

This is murder and you will be charged for murder and that is
our approach in Lagos State police command.”

He also disclosed that several arrests have been made after the killing of a
North American University student, one Adeolu Oteinake in Lagos by suspected
cultists.

On the incessant clashes by urchins and suspected cult groups in Mushin and
Shomolu areas of the state, Mr. Manko, stated that the security in those areas
have been beefed up to forestall further breakdown of law and order.

He spoke further,
“the nature of Mushin as a densely populated area is a reason to look into the
security of the area. But we are not only focusing on Mushin but other densely
populated areas. I have drafted 6 patrol vehicles to that Mushin axis to
complement the efforts of the Area Commander and the DPO(Divisional Police Officer)
there so that the menace must stop and we must stop
