TITLE: Mechanic (1 Full-Time Position)
HOURS OF WORK: Rotating

DESCRIPTION: Under direction, performs assigned maintenance and construction duties throughout the hospital facilities, according to policies, procedures, legislated codes and regulations, to support a functional, reliable, safe and comfortable health care environment.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Performs duties consistent with those of Industrial Mechanic or Heavy Duty Mechanic under the Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act and as pertains to a hospital environment.
Maintains and repairs building systems, as assigned, such as water, steam, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning except refrigerant systems, computerized tube system, medical gas system. Maintains and repairs hospital equipment as assigned, such as equipment room machinery, fans, motors, compressors, pumps, valves, hydroclave, plumbing fixtures, converters, cooling towers, operating tables, beds, chairs, tables, addressographs, kitchen equipment, carousel system, hospital beds, wheeled devices; lifting and moving of equipment. Replacement of bearings, couplings, shafts,etc. Stainless steel fabrication and repair as required.
Fabricates, installs or modifies sheet metal or mechanical fixtures and equipment, as required.
Plans, prepares layouts, reports material and technical needs for own work assignments. Submits for approval, estimates of materials, labor, feasibility of repairs or projects, and purchase requests. Interfaces with management and staff throughout the hospital, contractors and suppliers to expedite the resolution and follow-up of facility needs.
Performs minor project work, renovations, equipment installation and testing, as required.
Participates in the preventative maintenance programs, work schedules, and maintains records as required.
Assists other personnel as required or may be called on to do other duties as required by the Maintenance Department.
Responds to emergency call-ins, stand-by, shift rotation and overtime, as required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Grade 12 diploma (Technical program)
Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Industrial or Heavy Duty Mechanic. 5 year apprenticeship program – 2 year educational component
Minimum of 3-5 years experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy machinery, building systems, metal fabrication and machine shop.
Ability to demonstrate excellent trouble shooting and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to attend work regularly.
Satisfactory criminal reference check including vulnerable sector search.
