About Kepler
Kepler is a nonprofit
university program designed for the developing world. We combine the best of online
learning (MOOCs) with in-person seminars and intensive education-to-employment.
Kepler’s pilot campus opened in Rwanda in 2013, and our goal is to create a
global network of universities that deliver the skills that emerging economies
need for a price that our students can afford.
All Kepler students are dual
enrolled in Southern New Hampshire University’s innovative College for America
program and will earn a US Bachelor’s degree unpon graduation.
Kepler is being incubated
within Generation Rwanda, which for nearly a decade, has operated one of the
highest performing scholarship programs in Africa.

Position Overview
Kepler is looking to hire one
to two education methods specialists. The Education Methods Specialist will
help build this program from the ground up, and responsibilities include (but
are not limited to) the following:
• Researching current
developments in curricula, teaching methods, educational technology and other
educational practices, and advising and assisting in the implementation of
necessary changes and possible improvements
• Evaluating, advising, and
creating contents of courses and methods of examination
• Researching into
audio-visual, on-line, and other technological teaching aids and advising on,
planning and organizing their introduction in educational establishments
• Documenting subjects and
courses developed, and evaluating new courses
• Providing ongoing
professional development, training and consultative services to teachers
• Organizing and conducting
workshops and conferences to train teachers in new programs and methods
• Developing the structure,
content and objectives of new educational courses and programs for both
in-person and on-line instruction
• Working in the school (and
visiting other schools) conferring with administrative and teaching staff on
questions relating to curricula, teaching methods, equipment, technological,
and other matters
• Visiting classrooms to
observe teaching techniques and to evaluate teachers performance, and
scholastic results obtained
• Preparing reports and
making recommendations to educational authorities concerning possible changes
and improvements in curricula, teaching methods, education technology, and
other matters
• Play a central role in the
development and implementation of online education in a blended learning
environment, use of a variety of standard workplace technologies (eg. Microsoft
Office, Google Apps for Education, and standard database software
• Partner with College for
America/SNHU and other central academic institutions to ensure programmatic and
student success
Position Details and
Qualifications
This is a full-time, paid
position located in Kigali. The start date is summer 2014. Compensation is
commensurate with experience.
● Possess a Master’s Degree,
PhD, or the equivalent professional degree
● Provide evidence of a
minimum of 2 years of experience, either as a student or instructor in US-style
Socratic Seminar and/or critical thinking pedagogy (the basis of US liberal
arts higher education)
● Provide evidence of
coaching teachers
● Provide evidence of
educational and policy leadership
● Be fully fluent in English
(minimum TOEFL of 104) or have attended a university program where English was
the sole language of instruction
● Be able to demonstrate
error free native-level English writing skills
● Demonstrate proficiency in
Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well cloud-based storage and
file sharing: e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.
You should also be able to provide
evidence of the following Professional Skills and Professional Experiences:
● Teaching English to
Non-Native Speakers
● Experience with Socratic
Seminar, Peer or Student-Led Instruction
● Teaching or training using
any of the following pedagogies: Backwards Design, Collaborative Learning, Peer
Instruction
● Writing native-level
English in a professional setting
● Coaching and developing
teachers
● Experience developing and
implementing on-line and in person curriculum
● Ability to research latest
educational best practices
● Experience evaluating
teachers and educational outcomes:
● Minimum of 2 years of
facilitating, designing and/or conducting training sessions for adults
● Managing or teaching using
online technology
● Implementing data-driven
instruction or data-driven decision making in the workplace including data
analysis and action planning
● Experience modeling desired
educational practices in the classroom
