Reporting to: Country Director – Jesuit Refugee Service, Malawi
Full time 37.5 hours / week
KEY PURPOSE To manage the delivery of all aspects of the Jesuit Commons Higher Education at the Margins project at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To manage the establishment, development and maintenance of relations with the staff and infrastructure of JC-HEM in Dzaleka;
2. To manage the delivery of the Academic Credential.
This will include the management of:
• The recruitment, admission, registration, assessment and academic, administrative and technical support of students undertaking the credential;
• The recruitment of onsite academic staff to support students;
• The maintenance of regular contact with partner universities and international faculty members to review courses and follow up on students’ progress;
• The provision and maintenance of appropriate IT infrastructure;
• The establishment, development and maintenance of arrangements with local Higher Education Institutes as appropriate.
3. To manage the delivery of Community Service Learning Tracks (CSLT) in subjects directly relevant to the refugee and local community, such as Community Health or Business and Entrepreneurship.
This will include the management of:
• Needs assessment in the community and planning of appropriate CSLTs;
• The recruitment, admission, registration, assessment and academic, administrative and technical support of students undertaking the track;
• The recruitment of onsite CSLT facilitators;
• The provision and maintenance of appropriate IT infrastructure.
4. The management and completion of all aspect of the Jesuit Refugee Service project management process including, the management of resources, reporting on their use and milestones achieved through six-month and annual reports.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Professional Knowledge, Skills & Experience
• At least a Masters level Degree in Education, Social Sciences or related field (PhD preferred)
• Experience in online learning.
• Experience in project planning, reporting and budgeting.
• Strong computer and writing skills.
• Excellent written and verbal English and French communication skills.
• Demonstrated work experience in a multicultural work environment.
• Experience of working in a developing country is an added advantage.
General
• Flexible and lateral thinker.
• Compassion for refugees and displaced people, a motivation to serve, and (desirable) experience of working in the context of forced migration .
• A capacity to adapt to basic living and working conditions particularly to operate in a sub optimal working environment subject to power cuts / intermittent electricity.
• Demonstrable experience of, and capacity for, working collaboratively as part of a team.
• Multiple time zones requires flexibility in work hours (including evenings and weekends)
REMUNERATION
JRS remuneration policy depends on the mode of engagement. Locally engaged employees are paid according to local policies and levels while internationally engaged volunteers are paid a stipend, based on local living expenses, in keeping with JRS ethos and their voluntary capacity, with support for accommodation and transport. Details will be discussed with candidates short-listed for interview.
