Position title: Expert/Specialist in Oral and Maxillo facial Surgery

Classification: Volunteer position under MIDA Health Project
Duration of Appointment: 30 Day contract with a possibility of extension
Expected starting date: Between 1st April and 30th June 2012
Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

General Function, Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the overall supervision of the IOM Project Manager and the direct supervision of the designed Focal Point or the Director of University Teaching Hospital of Kigali, and in close collaboration with other human for health in the hosting institution, the successful incumbent will be responsible for the implementation of the following activities.

Essential functions will be as follow:
• To examine, to diagnose, and to treat by surgical means abnormalities and injuries of oral and maxillofacial structure;
• To examine patients and to interpret and to evaluate radiographs of facial structures to determine nature and extent of abnormalities and injuries of jaws and adjacent bones and tissues;
• To prescribe and to perform the type of surgery and fixation required in treatment;
• To perform oral surgical operations to remove infected, impacted, or malposed teeth, and to remove abnormal growths, cysts, and foreign bodies from jaws and oral structures;
• To apply fixation apparatus for fractures of jaws and adjacent bones;
• To prescribe preoperative and postoperative care;
• To prepare diagnostic and treatment records;
• To provide consultation services;
• To formulate procedures governing administration of oral surgical service;
• To determine material and equipment requirements for operation of oral and maxilla-facial surgery service;
• To coordinate with other medical and surgical services;
• To organize CME for the staff;
• To train and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate medical students;
• While on duty, to be available to intervene or to give advice to the Accident and Emergency Department;
• To work in close collaboration with the Head of the Surgery Department.

Desirable qualifications:
• MMed Degree in Oral and Maxillo Facial Surgery or equivalent;
• Minimum three years working experience after qualification;
• Good understanding of Rwanda health Sector context and policy;
• Ability to work harmoniously with other colleagues from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds;
• Personal Characteristics: Initiative, motivation, and willingness to work as volunteer and share knowledge with other professionals in the health sector in Rwanda, including on-job-training, conference, meeting, etc.

Languages: Thorough knowledge of English and French, and knowledge of Kinyarwanda is an asset.
This position is only available for Rwandan Diaspora Health Professionals and other non-Rwandan Volunteers.
