The International
Crisis Group (Crisis Group) is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental
organisation, with some 150 staff members on five continents, working through field-based
analysis and high-level advocacy to prevent and resolve deadly conflict. We are
currently looking for a highly motivated and capable staff member who will be
working as Senior Analyst, Nigeria

Role:

Crisis Group is
seeking a senior analyst to work on Nigeria for its West Africa Project. The
job involves working with other members of the West Africa team to research and
produce reports on security, conflict, political, governance, human rights and
social issues related to the West African sub-region with particular emphasis
on Nigeria. The senior analyst will carry out research and advocacy for Crisis
Group in Nigeria and neighbouring countries. Extensive travel within Nigeria
and in West Africa is required. This position will be based in Abuja.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing
    detailed reports and briefing papers on the key issues linked to the
    political, social and security issues of Nigeria, setting out relevant
    research findings and policy recommendations;
  • Conducting
    extensive field research into prevailing security, social and political
    conditions; and
  • Proposing
    policy initiatives to be undertaken by the relevant governmental and
    non-governmental actors to address the underlying issues that feed
    grievances and to conduct advocacy that promotes Crisis Group policy
    ideas, especially with ECOWAS countries and secretariat.

Requirements:

  • Deep
    knowledge of the West Africa region, in particular Nigeria;
  • Extensive
    contacts in Nigeria with governmental and non-governmental officials,
    media and academia;
  • 5+
    years of professional experience in conflict analysis, journalism,
    academic, NGO or INGO work related to Nigeria;
  • Excellent
    writing and analytical skills, good at summarising vast amounts of written
    material; and
  • Fluency
    in English, French an advantage, and knowledge of local languages highly
    appreciated.
