ILC Africa seeks two bright, energetic all-rounders with a strong work ethic and a passion for education.
Interested applicants should consider this fellowship an opportunity to gain exposure to international education and operations management in Africa. The two fellowships are for:

OPPORTUNITY #1: Education Fellow: University Admissions Program at ILC Africa
OPPORTUNITY #2: Education Fellow: Afterschool Programs, Communications, and Community Outreach at Springforth International School

FELLOWSHIP OVERVIEW:
• A 12-month fellowship (roughly from June 2012 to June 2013)
• Strong work ethic and commitment

OPPORTUNITY #1:
EDUCATION FELLOW: UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS PROGRAM AT ILC AFRICA

The University Admissions Program Fellow will be placed at the ILC Africa office. Founded by two University of Pennsylvania alumni, ILC Africa is a small and dynamic consultancy and advisory firm based in Accra, the nation’s capital. ILC Africa is known for its two service lines: Monitoring and Evaluation Services as well as the University Admissions Program. Its University Admissions Program is in its 7th year of linking African students to secondary, tertiary, graduate, and professional degree programs all around the world. Having raised more than $7.8 million in scholarships, the University Admissions Program provides coaching and advisory services to the general public in all aspects of the boarding/college/graduate school processes, including scholarship procurement, standardized testing, applications, essays, school selection, extra-curricular programs support, and more.

The University Admissions Program Fellow will directly contribute to increasing that $7.8 million accomplishment by teaching standardized testing classes, coordinating in-country instructors and scheduling, and overseeing the entire process and timeline related to the admissions process on behalf of ILC Africa students. The fellow additionally manages our admissions program so that all students, instructors, and clients are satisfied with daily operations.

Overall the fellow must possess a high level of confidence and decision-making skills to work independently and manage various tasks to support the admissions process for 15-20 students, on average. The Fellow must be able to dynamically interact with students and adults as well as comfortably command Microsoft Office Suite to track and analyze student progress in Microsoft Excel. Most importantly, the Fellow must possess a genuine appreciation for education and the emotional highs and lows of the admissions process to be able to guide and encourage all participants through the process.

The University Admissions Program Fellow should possess the following specific skills/qualifications:
• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree holders also encouraged.
• Teaching/tutoring experience in math, reading, and writing
• Familiarity with lesson planning and scheduling
• Ability to teach test prep courses in critical reading, writing, and math (ILC Africa additionally provides a company-specific training in our strategies and methods)
• Naturally high aptitude in standardized test-taking
• Excellent attention to detail and communication skills
• High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (tables/graphs/charts/matrices) and data manipulation skills to generate reports and executive summaries
• Client focus with the ability and enthusiasm to interact with people of diverse cultural backgrounds
• High level of comfort to work independently
• Ability to take instruction with humility in a spirit of learning, apprenticeship, and professional growth

FELLOWSHIP PACKAGE:
• A 50% subsidy of round-trip airfare and visa costs to Accra, Ghana
• Basic accommodations during the length of the fellowship
• A mobile telephone during the length of the fellowship
• A local and very basic living stipend to subsidize monthly personal living costs (meals, telecommunications, transportation, and incidentals)
• Health care subsidy

EDUCATION FELLOW: AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS, COMMUNICATIONS, AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH AT SPRINGFORTH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

The Afterschool Programs, Communications, and Community Outreach Fellow will be placed at Springforth International School, a residential, private primary school. Springforth offers primary school education from Class 1 through Class 6 in addition to a full range of extra-curricular activities. The school’s mission is to provide quality international Early Childhood and Primary education in a nurturing, stimulating environment, helping children achieve their full potential through the development of their unique academic abilities and moral character. Springforth students come from various countries all over the world. Since its founding, Springforth has served families from more than 15 countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Nigeria, Japan, Australia, Togo, Lebanon, Ireland, Ghana and Italy.

The Afterschool Programs, Communications, and Community Outreach Fellow’s primary responsibility is to manage the school’s front office and interacts with parents and visitors. The Fellow will coordinate afterschool programs, which include various extracurricular activities such as arts and athletics. Additionally, the fellow will lead Springforth’s marketing efforts and develop communications materials for the school’s website and newsletter.

The Afterschool Programs, Communications, and Community Outreach Fellow should possess the following specific skills/qualifications:

• Strong coordination and organizational skills
• Client focus with the ability and enthusiasm to interact with people of diverse cultural backgrounds
• Experience in working with pre-school and/or primary-aged children
• Creativity and initiative to implement new ideas for extracurricular and marketing activities
• Excellent attention to detail and communication skills (i.e., writing and web designing)
• High level of comfort to work school staff of different cultural backgrounds
• Ability to take instruction with humility in a spirit of learning, apprenticeship, and professional growth
