If you’re a fan of Arc Raiders, you’re probably familiar with Rusted Tools. They play a crucial role in your gameplay. Mastering Rusted Tools farming techniques will make your progress much more efficient.
Statistically, there are three methods for farming Rusted Tools: understanding Mechanical Loot pool routes, performing recycling math, and prioritizing Workshop Upgrades.
If you want to acquire more Rusted Tools, continue following this guide from IGGM to learn more about what you want.
Location and Treasure Chests
Rusted Tools are hard to obtain. As rare machine parts, they are essential for upgrading your Workshop in Gunsmith 2. Each part weighs 2kg, so you can only place up to 3 per slot. Therefore, any leftover parts can be used, disassembled, or sold for 1,000 ARC Raiders coins.
Rusted Tools are especially important from the early to mid-game. They only appear in the machine-related item pool. First, understand that ARC Raiders map is divided into four themed areas: Machine, Technology, Electric, and Old World.
When you enter an area, a tag specific to that area will appear on your HUD. To move more efficiently, check the map legend before you leave to identify machine-related areas and safe travel time.
For example, facilities and Workshops on Blue Gate map have machine-related tags, indicating the direction you should go. Since the locations vary each time, it is recommended to explore as many machine-related areas as possible to maximize efficiency. In machine areas, Rusted Tools can be found in wooden crates. Of course, sometimes the crates are empty, but there’s no need to be discouraged. In most cases, opening a crate will grant you experience points (XP), which are very helpful for leveling up.
However, opening a crate takes several seconds and makes noise, putting you at a disadvantage and making you more vulnerable to ambushes. If other players or ARC patrols are nearby, they will hear the noise and track you down.
While looting crates, always observe your surroundings and look for places to hide. IGGM advises to plan your escape route in advance. Be wary of sudden footsteps or drone scans, and be prepared to abandon the mission and start over if necessary.
Looting Routes and Safe Escapes
After gaining a basic understanding of the scattered mechanical areas, you can further plan a dedicated route. Connect as many mechanical areas as possible, ideally to 3 – 4 zones, and consciously avoid entering Hostile Territory. For added security, check the number of containers every minute to precisely manage unforeseen risks.
There are few restrictions on gear selection; if you remain cautious, you can still choose quick material gathering. Losing gear will not result in a loss. Your only goal is to complete the mission quickly and leave via Raider Hatch and Quiet Exit. Note that sprinting will rapidly deplete your stamina.
Every movement you make will make sounds, constantly reminding you to conceal your position. Engaging ARC machines will deplete your resources, and Aggro will be teleported to nearby patches by Drones, so avoid combat from the start. If you must avoid combat, just buy ARC Raiders BluePrints from IGGM.com; high-penetration weapons like Ferro can help you quickly defeat mechanical enemies.

You can only carry items during extraction. Extraction methods vary depending on the danger level and the map provided. In safe extraction scenarios, you can choose to leave through a Raider Hatch, but you must have a Raider Hatch Key. Without one, you can only choose common but high-risk locations like Loud Alarm’s Airshaft, Tunnel, and Elevator.
Having a Raider Hatch Key allows you to extract while carrying high-value items, providing greater peace of mind. Keys can be crafted, obtained randomly as drops, or bought directly from the vendor Shani in Speranza for a more convenient and faster process.
Tools and Their Uses
To successfully unlock Gunsmith 2, you need to collect 3 Rusted Tools, 5 Mechanical Components, and 8 Wasp Drivers simultaneously. Before each run, prioritize collecting the materials you need most to shorten your upgrade time.
Recycling parts at the base often yields the highest returns. In total, you can obtain 8 Metal Parts for 600 coins and 1 Steel Spring for 300 coins. This seems very cost-effective.
The default stash in Speranza has 64 slots. You can also use accumulated materials to buy more slots. Obviously, proper planning is essential. After all, besides quantity, carrying capacity is also a factor you need to consider.
Don’t forget that after each race, Your pet rooster Scrappy will give you a slight surprise: free resources. So some items you own will be obtained without your knowledge.
To be on the safe side, IGGM recommends treating Rusted Tools as progress currency. After completing Gunsmith upgrade quest, you can choose to exchange for gold or acquire components based on your needs, maximizing their effectiveness and systematically improving your base.
