BACKGROUND
The position of Program Manager is being offered by I
Live Here Projects (ILHP) facilitated by Centre for Legal Assistance (CELA)
ILHP’s local partner. ILHP is a non-profit that works with marginalized
communities to ensure that basic needs are being met while presenting their
stories to inspire widespread social activism. The Centre for Legal Assistance
(CELA) is registered as a non-profit human rights organization that addresses
access to justice within prisons.

Working under the direction of I Live Here USA and
CELA, the In Country Program Manager will be responsible for interpreting and
translating policy guidelines into operational procedures in Malawi. The Program
Manager is will be expected to ensure seamless team management and development,
program delivery, quality control and evaluation. In this newly established
role, the Program Manager will manage the teachers and support staff of
innovative school programs set up in juvenile centers. The Program Manager will
be the face of I Live Here to all stakeholders within Malawi, ensuring that
target goals are met.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

o To manage the day-to-day activities and goals of the
Kachere and Girls’ Reformatory School, Maula Women’s School and Muzuzu school.

o To ensure that the goals values of I Live Here are
carried observed all local staff.

o To see that deadlines set forth by ILH staff are met
according to the high standard

o Develop and implement strategies that will maximize
the synergies among various program areas.

o Facilitate consistent, high-quality evaluation, and
goal setting for all employees

o Recruit, hire, and oversee the training and
orientation of all staff members under the direction of I Live Here and Head
Teacher.

o To liaison relationships with other stakeholders in
the working in each prison facilitating that their work with ILH ensuring that
their programs can be held during class hours.

o To work closely with both Malawi Prison Services and
The Ministry of Education, to ensure that by the end of the funding term, the
Ministry of Education will run the school and the correct steps have been taken
in order to achieve this

o To supervise all in country expenses according to ILH
and CELA’s budget.

o To ensure that schemes of work and lesson plans are
given to I Live Here according to deadline and that our feedback is integrated
in the learning.

o To collect and ensure monthly teaching reports from
are provided by each ILH Malawi staff. Ensure that the data is filled out
according to standards.

o To work with the teachers in developing their
capacity to achieve monthly listed goals and solutions to obstacles

o To ensure consistent communication among the teaching
staff, Malawi partners, CELA and I Live Here, including regular emails, weekly
conference calls and additional skype calls as necessary.

o To work with Kachere Head teacher on the development
and implementation of Mentorship program following up with mentors and former
students in order to track success

o To devise data tracking system that can be used by
head teachers that will clearly illustrate what ILH is accomplishing. Provide
monthly reports with new data.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education
Advanced university degree in Public Administration,
Education, social sciences or related field or a first level university degree
with extensive experience and specialization in either non-profit or public
sector management may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

2. Work Experience
At least 4 years of experience in the management of a
non-profit organization or school including demonstrated success in developing
and evaluating program models.

3. Language
Excellent written and oral communication skills in
English.

4. Competencies
Professionalism: Proven strong project management
skills, managing complex and multi-faceted projects, which have resulted n
measurable successes and program growth, are required. This will include, but
is not limited to: managing, developing, coaching and retaining individuals and
teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility and
performance.

Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues to
achieve organizational goals.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication
skills with exceptional attention to details. Speaks and writes clearly and
effectively, listens to others, clearly interprets messages, openness in
sharing information and keep people informed.

Planning and Organizing: Develops clear goals that are
consistent with agreed strategies, identifies and adjusts priorities, time
management, makes contingencies while planning.

Technological Awareness: Proficiency in using
technology as a management reporting tool and experience working with Microsoft
Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
