family-based care, support families at risk of breakdown and prevent child

global eradication of institutional care of children.
Hope and
homes for Children has been working in Rwanda since 2002 and now has operations
in Kicukiro, Bugesera, Nyamagabe, Nyarugenge and Rubavu District. The country office
is located in Gasabo District, Remera Sector, Nyarutarama cell, along Gishushu
—Nyarutarama road.
Hope and
Homes for Children-Rwanda seeks to recruit qualified a Rwandan national social
worker with relevant technical and working experience that will contribute to
delivery of Country Strategy, program development and implementation of
de-institutionalisation (DI) programmes in Rwanda.
Position:
Social Worker
This
position is responsible for providing services to children, families and
communities which enable them fulfill their potential, recover their
self-esteem and become self-reliant through alternatives to
De-institutionalisation. The position reports to the Head of Programme
Management/ Institution.
Main
roles and responsibilities
  • Contribute to the
    deinstitutionalization of children and ensuring they are placed in
    alternative family-based care,
  • Support the Head of
    Programme Management in identifying and planning interventions in
    institutions and families for De-institutionalisation (placement, prevention
    of family breakdown or child abandonment and post-placement follow up).
  • Support the Head of
    Programme Management in identifying and planning and delivering
    interventions for De-institutionalisation,
  • Contribute to child and
    family assessment, case management and placement decision, preparation of
    children and families, and post-placement support,
  • Providing advice and
    guidance to support the development of the De-Institutionalisation model
    for HHC Rwanda
  • Together with the Programme
    Management Team, planning and documenting Work Plans and exit strategies
    in conjunction with the overall strategic aims and priorities of HHC
    Rwanda
  • Together with the Programme
    Management Team, extracting and documenting learning for the purposes of
    sharing this with other focused organisations and service providers
  • Undertake any other activity
    that contributes to the smooth running and development of HHC
  • Any other assignment given
    by the supervisor
Personal
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social
    work,
  • At least 3 years of
    experience in operational social work, working with vulnerable children
    families groups and communities,
  • Ability to write well
    evidenced and well planned activities,
  • Good understanding of Child
    Rights Law in Rwanda,
  • Experience of working with
    Child Care focused organisations,
  • Ability to think
    strategically and work in groups with a team spirit
  • Excellent negotiation and
    communication skills in (written and oral) English and good French or
    Kinyarwanda.
  • Rwandan national with
    significant experience in Rwanda and sub-Saharan Africa
  • Knowledge of
    De-Institutionalisation and alternative services delivery child care
  • Ability to mobilise a range
    of field partners; community volunteers, local leaders, community members
    and parents for an intervention based on networks and forums
  • Written and verbal
    communication skills, including written reports in English (imperative),
    French and Kinyarwanda,
  • Being able and flexible to
    work on field on a regular basis,
  • Basic computer skills (Word,
    Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Any other assignment given
    by the supervisor
