Position: Plant Manager –
Sebringville
Organization: Homestead Organics Ltd.
Location: Sebringville, near Stratford, Ontario
Duties
and responsibilities:

  • Works
    under the direction of the President and in close collaboration with the
    management team.
  • Each
    of the company’s plants has a unique product and market portfolio and is
    relatively autonomous from the other. As the business unit manager, the
    plant manager is responsible for all aspects of the plant including
    operations, staffing, purchases, local market development, sales, customer
    service, facility management and maintenance, change & upgrade
    management, and cost control.
  • Directs
    all operations at the Sebringville plant: grain handling, feed milling,
    packaging, warehousing, shipping and receiving, logistics, and retail
    activities.
  • Establishes
    agreements, objectives, and production schedules with customers, vendors,
    and growers.
  • Promotes
    and delivers customer service excellence and satisfaction.
  • Supervises
    inventory levels and orders production inputs and packaging supplies.
  • Ensures
    quality, integrity, efficiency, timeliness, and accuracy throughout
    products and packaging, production records, operational and financial
    information, operational policies and procedures, schedules and deadlines,
    machine performance, operational efficiency, sampling and testing.
  • Produces
    work orders, production documentation, operational reports, and financial
    metrics.
  • Ensures
    excellent sanitary conditions, orderly housekeeping, and the optimal use
    of floor space.
  • Contributes
    to the success of the company along with long term planning, capacity development,
    market development, process and productivity optimization, and
    profitability.
  • Develops
    & maintains effective relationships with local regulatory, industry,
    & community contacts.
  • Ensures
    the safety, high performance, motivation, team work, and high productivity
    of the plant staff.
  • Conducts
    the selection and performance review of the plant staff. Develops and
    executes the training & development programs of plant staff as well as
    the merit and disciplinary decisions and activities.
  • Ensures
    regulatory compliance for workplace health and safety, organic standards,
    food safety standards, feed regulations, and municipal by-laws.
  • Assists
    in production and maintenance activities as the work load and the
    deadlines may require.
Qualifications
and skills
  • At
    least 3 years experience in a manufacturing plant related to agriculture
    or food.
  • Post-secondary
    education in commerce, business administration, or engineering technology
    is an asset.
  • Strong
    leadership skills. Develops competent, autonomous & responsible team
    members. Negotiates and collaborates with peers, superiors, and outside
    resources. Holds team members accountable.
  • Strong
    management skills. Effectively organizes resources, plans medium to long
    term schedules, adapts to changing priorities, manages multiple parallel
    activities, and makes sound decisions.
  • Strong
    intellectual skills. Solves problems, considers options, and mentally
    solves simple math calculations. Grasps the production systems,
    complexities, capacities, limitations, and dependencies.
  • Strong
    training and communication skills. Writes reports and plans. Transfers
    knowledge. Obtains quick and permanent results. Adapts the training and
    communications to the individual.
  • Self-confident,
    patient, calm, good humored, respectful, easy to get along with.
  • Strong
    information skills. Proficient with email, word processing, spreadsheets,
    and management software such as Quickbooks or equivalent inventory and
    financial software.
  • Fluent
    in spoken and written English.
Work
environment
  • Flexible
    schedule to manage and support two shifts, and to attend occasional
    evening and weekend marketing activities with trade shows, conferences and
    customer meetings.
  • Presence
    of grain, ground, and mineral dust. The production area is neither heated
    nor cooled.
  • Fast
    pace, variable stress levels. Repetitive physical work with 25kg bags.
Compensation
  • Negotiable
    salary based on experience, bonuses depending on company profitability
