Haven of Peace
Academy (HOPAC) is a Christian international school overlooking the Indian
Ocean in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania with over 300 students from 33 different
countries.
HOPAC expects
applicants for this position to be committed evangelical Christians with a
Bachelor degree or higher, at least 3 years of administrative experience and
fluency in written and spoken English. HOPAC provides teachers with a monthly
allowance that covers a significant portion of in-country living expenses and
then the teacher raises support for other expenses.
Children of teachers
receive tuition-free spots at HOPAC. The school also covers all permit/visa
costs and sets aside significant funds for staff development. Teachers are
expected to be spiritually supported by a sending mission or home church.

Primary
Principal
Haven of
Peace Academy
The Primary
Principal is a member of the school’s management team and reports to the
school’s Director. The Primary Principal oversees Grades Kindergarten – Grade 5
while the Secondary Principal oversees Grades 6- Grade 12. The Primary Principal
oversees a 14+ member teaching staff including administrative support from a
Chaplain and Swim/Sports Coordinators. The Primary Principal acts as the
educational leader of the primary school, responsible for its day-to-day
operation.
Responsibilities
include:
Educational
- To
supervise the teaching process, and to review and evaluate the academic
programs - To
conduct regular meetings with staff which will deal with routine school
matters and with the stimulating exchange of ideas on issues of educational/philosophical/spiritual
interest and concern - To
oversee the coordination of the extra-curricular activities programs of
the primary school - To
assist in the planning and the presentation of school assemblies and
programs - To
assist in maintaining a comprehensive calendar of school events and
keeping the entire school community informed of various school programs
and activities - To
prepare a master class schedule (timetable) and to assign staff and
students to classes and other obligations - To
co-ordinate the selection and procurement of resources and supplies for
the primary school
Culture/Climate
- To
function as the chief articulator of the school’s mission and vision to
primary staff and maintain congruency between the school’s mission and
vision statements and all activities in the primary school - To
function as the chief articulator of the primary school’s programs,
expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to
ensure that all constituencies are fully informed consistent with their
individual roles - To
provide an orderly, controlled environment in which learning can take
place, a school climate which is supportive and which reflects high morale
- To be
aware of the educational, physical, social, spiritual and psychological needs
of the members of the school community and to develop plans for meeting
these needs - To be a
visible presence in all areas of the primary school and act as interface
between visitors of all types and the primary school.
Personnel
- To make
recommendations to the Director regarding hiring and retention, and the
assignment of staff - To
arrange for substitute teachers as needed - To
establish programs for in-service training of primary staff
Students and
Parents
- To
provide for the academic guidance of students - To
maintain complete records on all students - To
provide for opportunities for parents to meet and consult with primary
school staff about their children’s’ education (Back-to-school nights,
Parent/Teacher/Student Consultations, etc.) - To
oversee the assessment, grading and the reporting standards and methods
used by teachers in measuring student achievement and the administration
of external examinations - To be
responsible for establishing guidelines for proper student conduct and
dress; to maintain student discipline consonant with school policies; to
monitor students’ adherence to established school rules; to maintain
accurate records of student attendance - To work
toward a resolution of all problems-both routine and unique-as they arise
and to keep the Director informed of general problems of the primary
school
Admissions
- To
oversee the primary student admissions process including assessment,
interviews, and evaluation of candidates for enrollment

- To
oversee the primary school budget - To make
final decisions, in conjunction with the Director, on serious disciplinary
matters - To
perform other duties as assigned by the Director
