a 14-week position duri
ng the summer of 2015.
TASKS AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform
fisheries and benthic invertebrate assessments in HCA watercourses
Assist
in the evaluation of fish habitat in aquatic systems
Assist
in fish habitat rehabilitation projects
Aquatic
Resources Technician will report to the Aquatic Resources Technologist and
Staff Ecologist
Other
duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should be:
Eligible
for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Summer Experience
Opportunities (SEO) Program (aged 15 to 24 years (not yet reached 25 years upon
commencement of employment, Ontario residents and eligible to work in Canada)
Student
in fisheries or ecology-related studies
Knowledge
of and experience with fisheries/benthic monitoring protocols (OSAP/OBBN)
Able
to identify southern Ontario stream fishes including cyprinids
Certified
for electrofishing in Ontario (preferred but not essential)
Able
to work as a team member and with adult volunteers
Valid
Ontario driver’s license and current first aid/CPR certification
Transportation
to HCA office
per hour for a 36.25 hour workweek for 14 weeks. Start date is May 19th, 2015.
