Halton
Green Screens (HGS) is an existing program offering monthly
environmentally-focused public film screenings in Oakville, Milton and
Burlington. The Halton Green Screens Schools Program offers environmental
programming in schools throughout Halton Region, using film as a tool to
inspire environmental stewardship. The major tasks for the Schools Program
Developer will be to plan and develop a program to showcase elementary and
secondary school students’ work to the public, as well as to plan and deliver
programming at the Newcomer Information Centre for children participating in
their summer sessions. The objective of these activities is to encourage youth
to take an active role in environmental community outreach.
RESPONSIBILITIES
School
Event:
Throughout
the school year, students at participating elementary and secondary schools
will be shown a film and asked to complete a project that relates to that film.
The project can include visual or media arts, poetry, spoken word, or short
stories. At the end of the year, two events will be held (one for elementary
schools and one for secondary schools) to screen the film for the public and
showcase the student’s work to the community. With the support of the Program
Coordinator, the Schools Program Developer will be responsible for:
  • Preparing
    a detailed and appealing program to send to teachers throughout Halton
    Region that includes instructions for scheduling and submissions
  • Choosing
    appropriate film for elementary and secondary schools
  • Finding
    and booking an appropriate venue for the student showcase
  • Making
    all logistical and budgetary arrangements for the events
Summer
Program:
The
summer program will take place at the Newcomer Information Centre in Oakville.
The Schools Program Developer will be responsible for:
  • Developing
    programming that is accessible to a diverse audience and engages and
    encourages children to become involved in environmental initiatives in a
    meaningful and ongoing fashion
  • Delivery
    of educational summer programming for children aged 4-12
QUALIFICATIONS
– REQUIRED
  • Interest
    in working with youth (ages 4-12)
  • Working
    towards degree in environmental studies, education, film or other relevant
    discipline
  • Strong
    communication skills – verbal and written
  • Detail-oriented
  • Some
    experience with events coordination
  • Strong
    computer skills, including Word, Excel, internet, email, and social media
  • Ability
    to work individually and collaboratively with others to achieve common
    goals
  • Good
    listener
  • Strong
    time and project management skills
QUALIFICATIONS

    graphic design skills

This
position is funded in part by Canada Summer Jobs. Eligible applicants must:
  • be
    between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • have
    been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and
    intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • be
    a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee
    protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee
    Protection Act
    2; and,
  • be
    legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial
    or territorial legislation and regulations.
The
