Overview:

GVEP International
is responsible for implementing all aspects of Capital Access for Renewable
Energy Enterprises (CARE2), a project funded by SIDA. This programme will
support the growth of a sustained market for renewable energy, focusing on
energy-focused micro, small and medium sized enterprises (e-MSMEs) in East
Africa;

the objective is to provide a means to drive economic prosperity. The
project has three main components, namely a Technical Assistance Facility
(TAF), a Loan Guarantee Fund (LGF) and Pipeline Development Projects (PDPs).
The specific PDP for Tanzania will involve establishing mobile phone charging
solar entrepreneur’s in Mwanza Tanzania; this project is known in short as

Job Role: The
Country Manager will establish GVEP presence in Tanzania, manage the
implementation of the Capital Access for Renewable Energy Enterprises (CARE2)
project and in particular, lead the Pipeline Development Project (PDP 2).

Responsibilities

Estblishment of the
GVEP presence in Tanzania. Strategic planning and direction: providing a
framework for implementing the activities of the project, communicating the
same to the team that is involved in implementation in Mwanza. Managing the Dar
es Salaam and Mwanza project offices, staff, financial and other resources to
ensure that project deliverables are met on time. Ensuring there is proper
communication and coordination on all project matters among project staff who
include BDS coordinators, mentors. Maintaining good relations and liaison with
relevant government agencies, Sida country offices and the beneficiary SMEs
involved. Monitoring: Ensuring accurate data for PDP2 is collected by project
staff, reviewed and analysed regularly and that lessons learned inform on-going
operational practice and strategy reviews. Working with the M&E Coordinator
to ensure PDP 2 is achieving the desired outputs, outcomes and impacts, and taking
immediate corrective action when deviations are noted. Reporting: Ensuring that
all required reports for PDP 2, both technical and financial, are delivered on
time as required internally. Harmonisation with other GVEP activities and
programmes in Tanzania with optimal use of shared resources and realization of
synergies with those programmes. Any other duties that may be reasonably
allocated by senior management.

Experience
Required

A Bachelors degree
in business, renewable energy or related field with more than 3 years work
experience. 3 years experience with donor programmes, with strong project
management skills and a track-record of delivering results. Experience in the
energy sector essential including financing and investment, energy technology and
the energy environment. Demonstrable ability to generate new business;
experience working with Financial Institutions (commercial banks, microfinance)
will be an added advantage. Experience working with rural or small businesses,
and an understanding of unique challenges faced by African MSMEs. Experience
creating and refining business plans and technical reports; writing narrative
and financial reports. High level of inter-personal skills, good presentation
skills and ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with colleagues, SMEs
and other stakeholders. A can-do and collaborative mindset – comfort with the
ambiguities and demands of a rapidly evolving environment. Fluent in English
and Swahili. The position will require regular travel to Mwanza.
