Greenpeace Canada is
seeking a Local Groups Coordinator to help engage supporters as part of
national efforts to mobilize millions of people across Canada for environmental
and social justice. The Local Groups Coordinator is responsible for the
creation and delivery of offline organizing strategies, including coordinating
initiatives and supporters both in-person and remotely.
Major
Responsibilities:
- As part
of a national team, leading the implementation of a supporter-based,
volunteer local group structure. - Building
capacity within local groups through local leadership development,
organized trainings, resources, materials and collaborative planning.
Providing support to local group leaders and coordinating collective
activities. Assisting local group leaders to plan, lead and coordinate
activities for supporters autonomously. - Strengthening,
broadening and diversifying Greenpeace Canada’s network of supporters by
providing online and offline support to individuals and communities
engaged in environmental justice outside Greenpeace Canada’s campaign
areas. - Ensuring
coherence and complementarity with digital mobilization strategies for
holistic supporter engagements, by working closely with Communications
& Digital Mobilization staff. - Contributing
to the design, development and implementation of supporter engagement
projects that will help achieve Greenpeace campaign objectives. Providing
input into the development of objectives, and annual work-plan based on
Greenpeace Canada’s Mobilization Strategy. - Organizing
supporter meetings and participation events. Following through, evaluating
and reporting after meetings and events. - Managing
communications with local groups by developing materials such as
correspondence, orientation packages, and information for the website,
preparing and sending out regular communications to local groups, updating
website and social media groups regularly. - Managing
Greenwire, a social media platform specific to Greenpeace. - Promoting
support within Greenpeace and to the public to advance campaign goals by
acting as a spokesperson. - Maintaining
a database for local groups.
Required Skills:
- Excellent
oral and written communication skills including public speaking and
presentation skills, as well as strong listening abilities; - Proven
experience leading, training and motivating diverse groups of volunteers
and activists; - Proven
skill in analyzing campaign strategies, designing actions and anticipating
ramifications; - High
level of professionalism while representing an organization, managing
conflict, and maintaining work relationships; - Extremely
fine-tuned organizational, computer, administrative and time management
skills; - Experience
in the volunteer management field, including direct responsibilities in
recruitment, engagement, training and organizing of volunteers; - Knowledge
of campaign techniques, strategies and practices and the principals of
social movement and engagement organizing; - A
demonstrated commitment, knowledge and passion for environmental and
social justice issues and general knowledge of Greenpeace objectives,
culture and methods; - Experience
setting and adhering to priorities in a volatile and ever-changing
context; - Flexible,
collaborative personality; - Bilingualism
in French and English is a necessity;
You will work with
colleagues in Canada and around the world. Some travel may be necessary.
Evening and weekend work will sometimes be required.
