Green Venture is a non-profit community based environmental organization located in Hamilton Ontario. Established in 1995, we are dedicated to connecting ideas and people to facilitate sustainable living and realize a cleaner, healthier community.
We are looking for a responsible, self-motivated, and dynamic individual to join our team as a temporary, part-time, support staff. This position will run from November 9th, 2011 to Feb 1st, 2012. Opportunities to extend the position beyond Feb 1st, 2012 will be fully explored.
The support staff will be responsible for special projects for Green Venture’s Hamilton Community Garden Network (HCGN) program related to fundraising and sponsorship. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, flexible and creative and will possess excellent interpersonal, time management, outreach, and problem solving skills. Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office software is required. A strong interest in environmental and agricultural issues is an asset.
This is a part-time, temporary position (24 hr/wk) starting at $16.50 per hour. This position is emotionally rewarding and offers work within a team environment with other enthusiastic staff and volunteers. Green Venture is an equal opportunity employer.

REPORTS TO
Community Garden Program Coordinator
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
Manage special programs as assigned with a focus on fundraising and sponsorship.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Environmental Programs
• Research, develop, and submit general funding and sponsorship plans for the HCGN.
• Research, develop, and submit general funding and sponsorship guide for individual community gardens.
• Implement HCGN sponsorship plan.
• Secure sponsorship and donations from local businesses.
• Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders and partners (foundations, grant makers, government, businesses, community organizations, and residents).
• Collect and analyze data from surveys.
• Assist in completion of the necessary reporting requirements for funders.
• Staff displays at local events to engage public in conversation and disseminate program information.
Reception (as shared by all staff when the Administrative Assistant is not available)
• Greeting visitors and addressing any inquiries from internal staff in a professional and courteous manner.
• Green Venture general inquiries:
– Direct calls and emails to appropriate staff.
– Respond to inquiries when appropriate.
• Process paperwork for couriers and package couriers accordingly.
• Sort incoming mail, faxes, and deliveries for distribution.
General
• Use computer word processing, and spreadsheets to prepare documents and reports.
• Prepare and send outgoing faxes, mail, and packages.
• Data entry and upkeep of the organization’s databases, ensuring a high level of accuracy.
• Prepare meeting minutes and agendas as required.
Health & Safety
• Take responsibility for personal health and safety insofar as he or she is able.
• Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Temporary, part-time position from November 9st 2011 to February 1st, 2012
• An average of 24 hours per week (3.5 days per wk)
• Expected to work business hours with periodic weekend and weeknight responsibilities.
• 30-minute unpaid lunch period per 7 hour+ shift.
• $16.50 per hour
