Government forces kill seven separatists in Cameroon’s troubled Anglophone region

According to military sources, seven armed separatists were killed in new clashes with government forces early Thursday in the locality of Esu in Cameroon in troubled Northwest English-speaking region.

“There were 11 of them generally but we only handled those that were actively involved in the fighting and the others were released,’’ a military officer who asked not to be named told Xinhua.

In the two English-speaking regions of Northwest and Southwest since 2017, armed separatists seeking to secede from largely French-speaking Cameroon have clashed with government forces.

According to the United Nations, at least 430,000 people were internally displaced by the war.

According to the Cameroon army, the crisis also cost the lives of over 300 soldiers.

However, the amount of separatists killed so far, there are no formal figures. (Xinhua / NAN)
