Purpose of job: To help smallholder coffee farmers implement Good Agronomic Practices, improve overall yields and organize themselves in a manner to be able to effectively supply coffee
Skills: Understanding of sustainable agricultural practices and participatory approaches, project planning and management, budgeting, computer applications, good writing skills
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct baseline studies of smallholder farmer supply chains and ensure that annual targets for extension are met
• Establish and manage farmer field schools to support effective extension work. This includes managing the overall training calendar
• Maintain and report on all Monitoring and Evaluation activities
• Report on crop health and overall area-by- area productivity as it relates to the overall coffee harvest annually
• Procuring of coffee from the coffee Producer Organizations
• Implement Internal Control Systems in the project area.
• Oversee implementation of project budgets and contribute to fundraising activities of the foundation
• Routinely visit and supervise all project areas under your jurisdiction.
• Advise Field Facilitators/Farmer Trainers on: coffee pruning, weed control, mulching, fertilizer application, pest and disease control, etc
• Help in the establishment of coffee nurseries and shade tree nurseries
• Write progress reports for donors.
Requirement:
• Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Rural Economy or related field
• Previous experience in developing and implementing Monitoring and Evaluation frameworks
• Previous experience in agribusiness projects management required
• Computer skills
• Report writing skills in English
• Excellent communication and team building skills
Experience
• Agriculture or Community Development OR equivalent experience.
• Experience in field or related area 3-5 years
• Experience in specific field or closely related job 2 years of field experience in implementing agricultural / community development projects
