The Golden Baobab is
a pan African social enterprise that discovers, nurtures, and celebrates the
most talented African writers and illustrators of children’s books, making
connections to publishers and producers to create winning material for the
marketplace. Golden Baobab is a recipient of the prestigious Echoing Green and
Playing for Change fellowships naming it one of the most promising,
game-changing social enterprises in the world today.
The Golden Baobab
Fellowship Program is a competitive and exciting opportunity for passionate and
dynamic individuals to play a critical role in supporting the mission of the
organization. This Strategic Development Fellow position is for a
results-oriented person who wants to translate passion for development,
literature, children, Africa and/or social enterprise into tangible results
that will shape the future of the children’s literature industry in Africa.
Roles and
Responsibilities
- Contribute
to the creation of a year-long fundraising strategy and spearhead its
implementation - Work
closely with the Exec. Director to identify, secure and retain
funders/donors - Work
with the Golden Baobab team to develop innovative programs that bring additional
revenue and enhance the personality of the organization - Research
prospective funding sources, partnerships and grant opportunities as they
arise - Track
proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising - Profile
of Ideal Candidate
Profile of
Ideal Candidate
- Minimum
of a Bachelor’s degree - 3-5
years of relevant work experience. Preference will be given to individuals
with experience in fundraising and/or grant writing, foundations and
corporate giving. Alternatively, extremely passionate individuals who have
an extensive track record of problem solving and delivering results will
be considered - Excellent
verbal and written English skills. Strong research skills - Highly
professional and reliable, able to work independently and without close
supervision - Ability
to meet close deadlines and perform in a highly results- oriented and
challenging environment - Exceptional
team player - Passionate
about Africa, children, literature, media, fundraising and or social
enterprises
Fellowship
duration
: 1 year
Benefits : $2,000 USD contribution
towards relocation expenses (airfare, immunizations, health insurance and
immigration). Free housing. Small monthly living stipend.
