Ontario’s Greenbelt is an area of permanently protected green space,
farmland and vibrant communities. It surrounds the Golden Horseshoe,
and is vital to the quality of life in southern Ontario. The Friends
of the Greenbelt Foundation is a charitable organization, focused on
supporting activities that preserve and enhance the agricultural,
rural and environmental integrity of Ontario’s Greenbelt.
The Foundation undertakes or funds
(i) develop better understanding for the implementation of the
Greenbelt Plan and other land-use plans and policies;
(ii) advance possible revisions to Greenbelt-specific and
Greenbelt-relevant policies, notably with respect to agriculture and
natural heritage systems;
(iii) investigate and problem-solve challenges that inhibit
sustainable approaches to land use management and economic
development; and to
(iv) assist in increasing awareness and understanding of the Greenbelt.
The Research and Policy Assistant provides research and analytical
support to the Vice President, Research and Policy, and works in close
collaboration with the Research and Policy Analyst.
Responsibilities
• Conduct research and analysis, using qualitative and quantitative
data as necessary
• Prepare and edit reports, briefing notes, correspondence,
presentations, and other documents
• Develop terms of reference for externally conducted research studies
• Consult with non-governmental organizations, community groups,
conservation authorities, universities, industry associations,
government staff, and other organizations
• Support delivery of roundtable discussions, workshops and other events
• Liaise with Foundation communications staff in the preparation of
news releases, informational backgrounders, and other supporting
materials
• Develop and post social media updates as needed
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with:
• Demonstrated research and analytical skills, including working
knowledge of qualitative research methodologies and quantitative
statistical techniques
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Ability to interpret and apply legislation and regulations
• Understanding of Ontario’s land use planning system, agriculture
system, and/or environmental issues and policies
• Well-developed organizational and work planning, and problem solving skills
• Working computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
or similar presentation software
• Intermediate level skills in social media
• Valid Ontario Drivers’ license
