At least 16 people, including a police officer, were feared killed by unknown gunmen during the attack on Kaura LGA, Kaduna State on Sunday, according to residents.
The Kaduna police spokesperson, Muhammad Jalinge, said the attack had taken place in the Kukum Daji town.
He said, however, that the police have yet to ascertain the exact number of casualties.
Residents said, however, that Sabon Gari Manchok, also in the Kaura Council area, was also attacked by gunmen who reportedly killed about 16 people and wounded many others.
A resident said the attackers attacked their communities on motorcycles around 10:30 p.m., firing intermittent during a wedding event.
Meanwhile, Samuel Aruwan, State Commissioner for Internal Security, told BBC Hausa Monday afternoon that the attack was a crime against humanity.
He was also unable to confirm the number of casualties.
He said “the government is in touch with Kaura local government officials and other stakeholders with a view to forestalling the incessant attacks and killings”.
Despite security presence, the state, including Zamfara, has witnessed bloodshed by hoodlums and criminal groups that have left hundreds dead in recent years.
