Fresh City Internship Program (4 positions) Job Vacancy in Canada

Type: unpaid internshipOrganization: Fresh City Farms
Location: Toronto, Ontario

Fresh City Farms is excited to announce the initiation of our Fresh City Internship Program! We have four (4) internship positions available!

We are looking for reliable, inquisitive, passionate, and chock-full-of energy urbanites willing (and excited) to get their hands dirty. Past farming experience is not a pre-requisite, but you must be familiar with the basics tenants of sustainable, organic agriculture and hopefully you’ve tried your hand at growing something before. We will teach you the rest!

Who we are:
Fresh City was founded to empower young people to farm in urban front and back yards. We believe in the transformative power of urban farming to educate the public on food issues and to expand the market for local and organically produced food. You can learn more about us on our Facebook page or this recent article about our model: http://toronto.openfile.ca/toronto/file/2011/04/agriculture-venture-takes-root-city

What you’ll learn…
You will learn how to grow quality food. You will meet people who are passionate about food and changing the world. The hard physical work will get you in great shape. You will learn what it means to be a farmer. You will join the burgeoning movement to reform our food production system. You will be working with our Production Manager, Damian and our Assistant Farmer, Shawn on a daily basis. Damian and Shawn are highly experienced farmers and are looking forward to sharing their collective wisdom.

How much do I have to work?
Interns will generally work one day a week for 6 hours for at least 12 weeks. Internships can start as early as May 1st and can end as late as early November. We will work with you to find a shift that works for you, for us and for the veggies.

The application process:
If you’re interested in our program and are passionate about food, possess an entrepreneurial spirit, and have some experience gardening or farming, please submit a cover letter and resume to Damian Adjodha, Production Manager at damian@freshcityfarms.com .
