Hours of Work: 40 hours/week

Wage: $12.00-13.50/hr

Forman Farms is a diversified and dynamic farm operation located in
Seeley’s Bay, Ontario that provides high quality products through the
use of sustainable and innovative practices. With a half-acre
hydroponic tomato greenhouse, complimented with larger field vegetable
productions, the Forman Farms Greenhouse supplies local restaurants
and grocery stores with fresh, seasonal harvests. Merging into direct
markets, the greenhouse operation is also expanding to include a farm
stand and CSA (Community Supported Agriculture- weekly food box) this
year.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate for this position will assist the Greenhouse
Manager in a wide variety of tasks involved in the care and operation
of the Forman Farms Greenhouse. This includes our hydroponic tomato
and lettuce production, seasonal garden center, vegetable field crops,
establishment of a new berry and asparagus project, and involvement in
our CSA(Community Supported Agriculture) pilot project.

More specifically this will include:
• Assisting in the seeding, transplanting, weeding, watering,
harvesting, packing, and pest monitoring of field vegetable crops (May
through to end of August)
• Assisting in the care and operation of the Garden Centre through
customer service relations, watering, and pest monitoring (May through
June)
• Assisting in social media and marketing tasks related to all
greenhouse operation activities including developing weekly
newsletters of “What’s Fresh This Week” (for restaurants, wholesale,
and CSA customers), updating social media sites as well as providing
information for our website.
• Assisting in the pest monitoring and biological control,
fertigation, data collection and management, marketing, and delivery
of greenhouse tomatoes

Qualifications:

The successful candidate for this position must possess a strong work
ethic and positive attitude. In addition we are looking for someone
with the following qualifications:
• Experience with/ knowledge of hydroponic greenhouse operations,
nursery plants , and vegetable crops
• Experience with/knowledge of integrated pest management(IPM) practices
• Ability to problem solve and willingness to investigate solutions to
new challenges
• Work effectively as a team, and independently with minimal supervision
• Handle fast paced work environment
• Willing to work in inclement weather
• Must be a full time student and returning to full time studies in the fall
• Ability to operate a tractor an asset
• Computer Skills an asset
