Main Purpose of Job:
The Senior Camp Manager will be responsible for putting in place new camp and catering management systems across the business. They will take charge of our flagship camp in Mbeya District, and once new systems are set up there, they will train all Camp Managers to use the same procedures.


SBS Ltd provides camps, life support and transport solutions for a number of high profile clients in Tanzania and neighbouring countries, in particular for organisations engaged in oil and gas exploration, mining and military training. We have established camps for up to 800 people, starting from land clearing to make space for a new camp right through to providing catering and sanitation for the duration of the camp’s life.

Each camp is staffed by a Camp Manager, supported by varying numbers of cooks, cleaners and waiters, depending on the size of the camp. The existing Camp Managers are Tanzanian nationals who have different levels of training and skills, and the Senior Camp Manager is required to improve the standard of management across the business.

For the most part the Senior Camp Manager will be based in Luika Camp, however there will be opportunities for travel to camps in other areas as well as Head Office in Dar es Salaam to conduct training.

Key Responsibilities:
• Management of Luika Camp
• Liaison with clients to ensure that standards in Luika Camp are satisfactory
• Supervision of stock control in Luika Camp
• Supervision of camp management and catering staff
• Training of camp management staff across the business to provide high levels of customer service
• Training of cooking staff in Luika Camp to improve food preparation skills and introduce new recipes

Skills and Experience:
• Organisation and management skills
• Personnel management and motivating staff
• Stock management
• Food preparation & hygiene; menu planning
• Communication – must be comfortable dealing with staff at all levels internally and with Senior Managers of client organisations
• Computer skills – in particular maintenance of spreadsheets and use of email to communicate with other camps and Head Office
• Be flexible, adaptable and use own initiative to solve problems
• Able to react quickly to unforeseen issues and operational matters as and when they arise
• Would be an advantage if the successful candidate was willing and able to learn basic Kiswahili once in post to improve communication with those staff with poor English
• Must be able to drive
