POSITION SUMMARY:

The First Nations Fisheries Council is seeking an energetic and
adaptable personality who is motivated and self-directing to join our
team as a Fisheries Project Manager. Reporting to the Operations
Manager, the Fisheries Project Manager will work as part of our team
to implement specific initiatives and projects identified though the
BC First Nations Fisheries Action Plan and the FNFC Strategic Plan.
Specific work assignments will be aligned with the skills and
experience of the successful candidate. Examples of some on-going FNFC
initiatives include:
• Facilitating First Nations engagement in various fisheries
governance and ma

nagement processes, including development of proposed
management scenarios, coordinating technical committees, and
organizing workshops on various topics.
• Analysis of government programs and policies and their potential
impacts on the Title and Rights or Treaty Rights of BC First Nations.
• Strategic planning, project planning and management, and proposal development.
• Conducting outreach and communication to increase awareness of the
FNFC and its projects and program areas.

among First Nations organizations, and work together to build a united
voice on fisheries matters.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Plan, manage and monitor the implementation of key FNFC projects and
initiatives: project planning, budgeting, implementation, evaluation,
and reporting, including sub-contractor management.
• Oversee and coordinate committee meetings, forums, workshops,
conference calls and other events, planning the agendas and chairing
or facilitating meetings as required.
• Liaise with regional First Nations fisheries organizations,
Fisheries and Oceans Canada and/or others as appropriate to support
and advance First Nations’ fisheries rights and priorities, to plan
and implement projects, to analyze policies, and/or to develop
corresponding strategies and activities.
• Draft and edit a variety of written materials: project reports,
proposals, correspondence, technical and policy briefing notes,
discussion papers, and communications materials (newsletter articles,
etc.).
• Regular communication with the FNC Operations Manager on the status
and progress of projects.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
• Bachelor Degree in biology, natural resource management, political
science, geography, or a related field of study, with a minimum of 3 –
5 years of direct work experience.
• Substantive knowledge in fisheries management and policy or natural
resource management.
• Demonstrated project management experience through the entire
implementation cycle.
• Experience working with BC First Nations communities and/or First
Nations organizations is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task, set priorities effectively and
problem solve, including early identification of issues/problems that
may arise.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with ability to
interact professionally with a wide range of individuals and
organizations.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and commitment to
high quality work.
• Excellent communication skills – oral, written, proof reading, etc.
• Advanced knowledge of MS Office – Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel.

JOB LOCATION:

The FNFC office is located at 100 Park Royal South in West Vancouver,
BC. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Some travel
and extended work hours will be required.
