FHI 360 Communications & Marketing Officer Job Vacancy in Rwanda

SUMMARY
:
Participate
in marketing and communications initiatives that ensure FHI 360/Rwanda is
positioned to be an effective development partner in Rwanda, particularly in
sectors such as Health and Education. Coordinate functions related to
external/public relations, Country Strategic Planning, and Business
Development in order to promote awareness of FHI 360 with key stakeholders
(i.e., strategic partners, donors, policymakers, etc.) and contribute to the
achievement of the organization’s mission in Rwanda.
KEY
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Lead the design, development,
    production and dissemination of project marketing and communications
    materials/products to document project results, promote the FHI
    360/Rwanda program, and respond to the needs of the Country Office
    staff. This involves:
  • Creating institution-wide fact
    sheets, publications, and brochures which document the entire country
    office portfolio, past experience, and expertise.
  • Identifying story ideas,
    compiling content, and writing web page articles, newsletter stories,
    and reports for various projects in the health and education sectors,
    among others.
  • Supporting the Rwanda Education
    Commons (REC) project to identify, describe, and post high-interest
    Rwanda education sector news and information to the REC online teacher
    portal.
  1. Participate in the design and
    implementation of strategies that strengthen the organization’s identity
    and reinforce FHI 360 as a leader in international development within
    Rwanda. This involves:
  • Providing technical assistance
    on the design and implementation of a public relations strategy that
    results in increased media coverage and improved awareness of FHI 360’s
    strengths and contributions to international development globally and in
    Rwanda.
  • Reinforcing internal
    communication efforts to ensure staff has a comprehensive understanding
    of FHI 360’s strengths and service offerings (across all projects).
  • Ensuring proper organizational
    branding and messaging in all publications, communications and events.
  • Participating in the
    identification and pursuit of potential opportunities to promote FHI 360
    through global events, summits, meetings and conferences that result in
    an increased awareness of FHI 360’s strengths and contributions in
    international development (with a focus on public health and education).
  1. Coordinate FHI 360/Rwanda’s
    Country Strategic Planning (CSP) and Business Development (BD) efforts,
    including long-term market positioning and evaluating new strategic
    opportunities in new priority areas of research and programs. This
    includes:
  • Collaborating with the Country
    Office management team and regional/headquarters-based Business Planning
    and Strategy (BPS) staff on country strategy development and planning
    activities.
  • Implementing and monitoring of
    the Country Strategic Plan (CSP) and Annual Operational Plan, in
    collaboration with the BD point person in BPS to ensure regional and
    home office resources and relationships information is shared
    consistently and regularly.
  • Managing the Country Business
    Development Prospect Summary and related business development tools,
    with monthly check-ins with Country Director on progress towards each
    prospect and new opportunities to be added.
  • Through tactical efforts,
    attract viable and complementary new funding sources, from both
    non-commercial and commercial sectors to meet FHI 360’s diversification
    objectives.
  1. Actively participate in proposal
    development activities as needed, with an emphasis on the marketing of
    FHI 360 (e.g. boilerplate and corporate capability statements).
  1. Ensure that all HQ and regional
    resources available to the Rwanda team are being utilized for effective
    strategic/business planning, public relations/marketing, project
    documentation/communications at the Country Office level (for all
    projects), while seeking support and services as needed from the BPS,
    communications, or proposal development staff at FHI 360’s regional
    and/or HQ offices.
  1. Provide other related
    communications, marketing and public relations support activities as
    required and/or assigned.
EXPERTISE
AND COMPLEXITY
:
  1. Project management and proposal
    design experience.
  2. Experience doing desktop
    research and performing business development meetings in the
    international development sector.
  3. Experience in
    communications/documentation and marketing. Familiarity with
    international public health and education programs, in particular, is
    preferred.
  4. Demonstrated expertise in
    marketing to donors, policy makers and industry stakeholders.
  5. Outstanding written and verbal
    communication skills in English. (French and Kinyarwanda are also
    preferred.)
  6. Very strong interpersonal
    skills.
  7. Ability to utilize technology,
    investigative skills, and relationship building to be successful in
    carrying out work functions.
  8. Excellent organizational skills,
    with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously,
    independently and meet short deadlines.
  9. Strong self-discipline,
    results-oriented, and ability to work independently, manage high volume
    and sensitive work.
  10. Creative, innovative and
    detail-oriented with a focus on appealing presentation, layout and
    graphics design.
  11. Sensitive to cultural
    differences and understanding of the political and ethical issues
    associated with international health.
  12. Highly responsive to requests
    made internally and externally.
  13. Expertise in Microsoft Office.
TYPE
AND NATURE OF CONTACTS:
  1. Routine collaboration with FHI
    360 employees, consultants and external parties in the U.S., in FHI
    360’s regional Kenya office, and in Rwanda – including working with
    staff  in other offices on international calls to meet
    global/regional/country-specific business development and marketing
    objectives.
  2. Ongoing and proactive
    interaction with representatives of media outlets as well as existing
    and potential funders.
  3. Ongoing and proactive
    interaction with individuals working for collaborating and competitive
    organizations.
  4. Coordination of work assignments
    with colleagues to ensure quality work is completed in a timely manner.
  5. Communication with external
    vendors such as graphic designers, copy writers, public relations firms,
    etc.
SUPERVISORY
AND BUDGET RESPONSIBILITY
Charged
with monitoring spending on the Corporate and Operational Budgets for Country
Strategic Planning (including Business Development).

MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS
Capable
of performing responsibilities of an Associate Resource Development Officer,
Grade 6.
Education/Experience:
  • Masters Degree in Business
    Administration, Communications, International Relations/Development or
    related field, with 3 – 5 years relevant experience in proposal writing
    and development, strategic/business planning, and/or communication and
    marketing functions;
  • or Bachelors Degree (4-year
    university degree/License: A0) in Business Administration,
    Communications, International Relations/Development or related field,
    with 5 – 7 years relevant experience in proposal writing and
    development, strategic/business planning, and/or communication and
    marketing functions;
  • or Associates Degree/Diploma
    (2-year university degree: A1) in Business Administration, Communications,
    International Relations/Development or related field, with 7 – 9 years
    relevant experience in proposal writing and development,
    strategic/business planning, and/or communication and marketing
    functions.
