Junior Professional Officers’ Programme (JPO-P)
The Junior Professional Officers Programme
(JPO-P) is a United Nations programme for recruitment of young people to work
in the United Nations system for a period of one to two years which could be
extended to the third year subject to satisfactory performance. The Programme
provides the opportunity for young professionals from donor countries to gain
value experience in development management and multi-lateral development
cooperation on the international environment.

The recruitment of JPO is an annual exercise but
based on the financial cycle of the donors. Decisions on sponsorship are made
at the beginning of each year and the number of JPOs selected varies depending
on the donor’s financial resources.

Nigeria’s entry into the programme:
The Federal Government of Nigeria and the UNDP signed a Memorandum of
Understanding on the 29th of October 2012 to further actualize the president’s
major aspect of the transformation agenda which is to create employment.
