The International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA) is the world’s primary accrediting and regulatory body for psychoanalysis with over 12,000 members.
The IPA seeks to assure the continued vigour and development of psychoanalysis for the benefit of patients, and aims to create new psychoanalytic groups, stimulate debate, conduct research, develop training policies and establish links with other bodies.
The Executive Director and staff team in London use their knowledge and experience of IPA governance, strategy and operations to support and provide stability for elected psychoanalysts who serve fixed terms of office in their international and regional roles.
The Executive Director works mainly to manage the small staff team in North London, and facilitate, advise and assist the work of the President, Executive Committee, Board and the other IPA Committees globally. This involves being the professional advisor and administrator to the Board, and a source of impartial analysis on the implications of proposed actions.
The IPA also organises a large biennial Congress, which this year is being held in Mexico City in July to celebrate 100 years of IPA success and offers an excellent induction opportunity for the new Executive Director to learn about the IPA and meet all key stakeholders.
