BUS DRIVER/RESPITE WORKER
THE MULTICULTURAL RESPITE SERVICES PROGRAM
The Multicultural Respite Services (MRS) Program is
one of several programs run by the Ethnic Child Care, Family and Community
Services Cooperative (ECCFCSC). The MRS Program provides respite care for
children and adults with mild to severe disabilities from culturally and
linguistically diverse backgrounds. The purpose of the respite care
provided by the MRS Program is to give the participants’ families a break from
the responsibilities of caring and also to provide the participant with an
opportunity for personal development and community participation.

POSITION PURPOSE
- To pick up and drop off participants of the
Multicultural Respite Services (MRS) Program in a 20 seat bus for program
activities - Work as part of the MRS Program team to assist in
the care of the participants
SHIFTS:
- Thursdays: 4-1030pm (6.5 hours)
- Alternate Saturdays: 8.30am- 5.00pm (8.5 hours)
- Weekdays during school vacation periods:
8.30.am-5/5.30pm (8.5-9 hours)
REMUNERATION:
The successful applicant will be employed on a casual
basis and be paid under the:

- Passenger Vehicle Transportation Award 2010 for
hours worked as a bus driver picking up and dropping off respite
participants (8.30-10.30am and 3-5.30pm on Saturdays and during Vacation
Care Program and 4-6pm and 9-11pm on Thursday evenings). The hourly
pay rate under this award is $24.63 plus penalties. - Social and Community, Home Care And Disability
Services Industry Award 2010, level 1 pay point 3, for hours worked as a
carer during the program activities in the interim between pick-up and
drop-off (10am-3pm on Saturdays and during Vacation Care and 6-9pm on Thursday
evenings). The hourly pay rate under this award is $23.82 plus
penalties.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential:
- Current LR license
- The ability to work flexible hours
- Ability to work as a part of the team
- Current Senior First Aid Certificate or
willingness to obtain this qualification - An understanding of the principles of Access
& Equity and Multiculturalism - A good understanding of issues effecting people
from Culturally And Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities - Satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Working
With Children Check - Ability to work during school vacation period to
assist with the Vacation Care Program (8-5pm weekdays during vacation
period)
Desirable:
- Experience in working with people with disabilities
- Second language
STATEMENT OF DUTIES
- Promote and actively carry out the aims of the
MRS Program - Be punctual and progress with pick ups and drop
offs by the most appropriate route, in consultation with the MRS Field
Project Officer - Ensure the safety of all clients and workers,
both in transit and when embarking and disembarking from the vehicle - Report to the MRS Coordinator on any issues
requiring attention with regard to transportation and client safety during
transit - Assist with the provision of MRS program
activities and facilitate the social interaction, learning and skill
development of the program participants - Consult parents, the MRS Coordinator and other
appropriate persons to exchange information relating to the client’s
progress, whilst maintaining confidentiality at all times - Comply with policies and procedures contained in
the MRS Handbook
