Filmmakers Ego Boyo and Blessing Egbe have defended the Nollywood film industry in the wake of the recent uproar over certain films.
Blessing Egbe claimed in her tweets that Nollywood producers are following trends and producing funny films because that’s what the Nigerians want to see. She also insisted that movies with “quack jokes” top box office because Nigerians rush to the cinemas to watch such movies because Instagram comedians and reality show stars are in it.
She tweeted;
“many producers follow trends. They make films that make you laugh because YOU asked 4 it! YOU RUSHED to d cinemas & laughed at quack jokes because your Instagram comedy/ big brother stars were in it. YOU made these films top box office hits. Now U complain? Pls manage it like dat”

Ego Boyo who retweeted Blessing Egbe’s post, averred that they make “serious” movies but Nigerians don’t watch such. She tweeted;
“Exactly! Please tell them.. And for all the ones shouting Ng Film industry should make more films that are serious, or this, that and the other ….. WE HAVE and you don’t fu*** watch..deal”
