Eat Local Sudbury Cooperative is looking for a Membership Development Coordinator, to research and develop policies and opportunities for our cooperative membership to engage with Eat Local as a whole.
Through communications, events, volunteerism, a new member manual and increased membership, the Membership Development Coordinator will increase Eat Local presence in Sudbury and our members involvement in the capacity building of the local food system through participation and cooperation.
The benefits associated with this position are increased capacity for the cooperative. An engaged membership will mean that the cooperative will grow, increasing the economic benefits to producers in the region. The more local food we sell means an increase in environmental benefits as the food has a much smaller carbon footprint. Building the membership of the cooperative increases the social fabric of the community as a whole.

Job Description
The Membership Development Coordinator will be responsible for researching and presenting to the Board, new consumer and producer member policies, engaging the membership of the cooperative through member communications, events and volunteerism, increasing the membership of the cooperative and developing a members manual.

The Membership Development Coordinator will report to the Managing Director, but will work with the Membership Development Committee, volunteers and the Board of Directors to achieve deliverables.

Salary: This is a one-year, full-time contract (35 hours per week) funded by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation’s Youth Internship Program with an annual salary of $30,556.

Start Date: June 18th, 2012

• research cooperative membership policies and manuals and create a manual and new polices for Eat Local Sudbury
• develop a membership package for all members
• train in the various aspects of ELS that we rely on members to assist with and then manage volunteer members undertaking these tasks
• market to and educate potential new members about ELS
• organize and coordinate member only events
• Work in the store, and at mobile markets, with member volunteers
• Other tasks as required

Qualifications
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge and interest in locally produced food
• Ability to develop educational, policy and manual documents
• Experience coordinating volunteers
• Able to multi-task, and meet deadlines
• Proven ability to motivate and mobilize people
• Able to create and monitor work plans
• Able to work independently and with others
• Must be organized
• Applied research experience
• Confident in Microsoft Office
• Experience working with not-for-profits, social enterprises and/cooperatives an asset
• Event planning experience an asset
• Publishing and website experience an asset
• Able to work weekends and some evenings

Eligibility Criteria
• Bilingual in French and English
• Interns must be 29 years of age or under and have recently graduated from an accredited college or university.
• Mature graduates may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
• Must have no previous work experience in this field.
• The intern must also not have previously participated in an internship program.
• Northern Ontario secondary school graduate, or have been residing in Northern Ontario for a minimum of one year prior to the start of the work placement. The intern must have resided in Northern Ontario for 12 consecutive months prior to the start date of the position.
