Position: Marketing & Outreach Manager

Durham Sustain Ability (DSA) is an environmental not-for-profit and
social enterprise that supports individuals, organizations and
communities on the path to a sustainable future.


DSA’s mission is to provide awareness, training, and implementation
support services driving environmental and economic benefits for
Durham Region organizations and residents in concert with our partners
and alliances.

DSA’s vision is to enable Durham Region’s transformation into a
world-class community in environmental conservation, which will
attract sustainability conscious organizations and residents.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Marketing and Outreach
Manager will be responsible for:
• Raising DSA’s profile and influence within the community
• Developing qualified sales leads for the Durham Partners in Project
Green (DPPG) program
• Supporting and integrating communications to both business and
community audiences

DUTIES

Develop Marketing Plan
• Continuously research evolving client/market needs/priorities and
the capabilities of our competitors
• Work closely with ED, sales resources, Program Manager(s), and other
staff to develop marketing plans and campaigns leveraging most
effective channels and vehicles (website, member portal, events, TV,
radio, email, social tools, etc) to deliver the right message from the
right author via the right channel at the right time
• Collaborate with our Partners in Project Green and Sustainability
CoLab partners to optimize alignment of messaging/content

Execute the Plan(s)
• Seek out and/or create high quality marketing collateral to enable
the marketing plan (e.g. newsletters, press releases, email, videos,
web site updates, blog, brochures/handouts, posters, signage, case
studies, success stories, presentations, etc.)
• Develop and grow our communications network and reach/influence
• Lead execution of the plan
• Continuously provide our target audience and members high leverage
information (events, success stories, tools, methods, reports, etc.)
through our member portal and other vehicles
• Act as “master” (access, content, and platform) of our website,
LinkedIn site, Facebook site, Twitter site, Member Portal, etc
• Continuously seek out opportunities to celebrate and promote
members’ progress and success

Assess Plan/Campaign Value/Impact
• Monitor key metrics related to the audience (e.g. # of followers)
and impact (e.g. clicks/leads, prospect to member conversions)
• Monitor sales activities (in our Customer Relationship Management
tool) to analyze what is and is not working
• Refine programs/plans as warranted
• Report on accomplishments, plans, and issues to ED on regular basis

Other
• As directed/warranted:
• May personally pursue assigned client opportunities
• May recruit and oversee volunteer resources
• May represent DSA at events, on committees or in meetings
• May provide custom services (e.g. marketing support) to our clients
• Other duties as assigned

• Education / Knowledge
• Degree or diploma in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing/Sales
• Applied knowledge of community development and community outreach
strategies and tools
• Media training
• Experience / Track Record
• 5+ years in marketing/selling, outreach programs
• Experience in growing a social enterprise
• Experience in managing the development and implementation of projects
• Experience in networking and developing partnerships
• Experience in marketing plan and proposal writing
• Experience organizing events
• Skills
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Strong relationship management capability
• Organized; detail oriented
• Self-starter; able take initiative to get projects completed successfully
• Ability to manage deadlines and multiple priorities
• Ability to create/conduct presentations and media interviews
• Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
• Proficient with Microsoft Office programs as well as Adobe software
(PhotoShop, InDesign, etc.), social networking tools (LinkedIn,
Twitter, Facebook), websites, CRM tools
• Knowledge of fundraising principles and techniques
• Mobility
• Valid driver’s license and access to car
• Able to travel within Region of Durham
