DSS makes clarifications on alleged arrest of acting EFCC boss, Ibrahim Magu

The Department of State Services (DSS), says contrary to reports, it did not arrest the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.

Magu was allegedly picked up earlier today by Department of State Services operatives and transported to the Presidential Villa to appear before a panel set up to investigate some corruption allegations leveled at him.

DSS Public Relations Officer Peter Afunanya said in a statement released that Magu was not arrested. The statement reads:

“The Department of State Services (DSS) wishes to inform the public that it did not arrest Ibrahim MAGU, Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as has been reported by sections of the media. The Service, has since, today, 6th July, 2020, been inundated with enquiries over the alleged arrest.”

The arrest claims have also been refuted by Tony Amokeodo, the spokesperson for the acting EFCC chairman.

According to him, Magu was invited only to appear before the Federal Government ‘s panel to investigate allegations of wrongdoing against him and the agency.
