Discussion of findings (results)

Research
hypothesis I
There are significant levels of awareness about soil
erosion in Sapele metropolis.
The calculated chi-square (X2) value of
15.862 ≥ 12.592 of table value of 0.05 at 6df which led to the rejection of the
null hypothesis. Finding indicate that there are significant level of awareness
about soil erosion in Sapele metropolis. This is in agreement with the opinion
of Karlen (2006) explained that soil erosion has lead to pollution of washing
in some toxic deposited by man in his environment and thereby killing some
aquatic life which were meant for human consumption.

Research
hypothesis II
Absence of good drainage system contribute to soil
erosion.
The calculated X2 value of 29.713 ≥ 12.592
of table value of 0.05 at 6df, which has led to the rejection of the null
hypothesis. Finding indicate that absence of good drainage system contribute to
the problem of soil erosion in Sapele metropolis. This is in agreement with the
opinion of Kenneth (2004). Soil erosion affect people particularly as a result
of absence of good draining system. The drainage system prevents soil
saturation due to too much water resulting from heavy rains. In a landscape
yard, draining system keeps the water from foundation of the house; it also
takes the water away using natural manufactured method.
Research
hypothesis III
There are significant levels of awareness about soil
erosion in Sapele metropolis.
The calculated chi-square (X2) value of
10.175 ≤ 12.592 of table value of 0.05 at 6df which led to the rejection of the
null hypothesis. Finding indicate that there are significant level of awareness
about soil erosion in Sapele metropolis. This is in line with Awake (November,
2002) states that flooding led to lest of lives and properties, dislocation of
people starvation; also this problem of erosion in Sapele exposes them to skin
infection and water borne disease. It also aggravate the problem of diarrhea
due to the intake of contaminated water that is not treated before consumption.
Research
hypothesis IV
To find out possible ways/methods to combat and also
reducing the environmental and health impact of soil erosion in Sapele metropolis.
The calculated chi-square (X2) value of 12.332
≥12.592 of table of 0.05 at 6df which led to the rejection of the null
hypothesis. Findings indicate that there are possible ways /methods to combat
soil erosion in Sapele metropolis. This is in agreement with the opinion of  Ikem  (2004), a number of strategies have been
designed and used by man to reduce the effect of soil erosion in the
environment due to the response of the government towards the problem. Filling
to help them, with much complain that the government should assist to build sea
walls and houses for those that their building has being destroyed to arrest
the case.
