The Department for Transport plays an important part in the nation’s daily life. In the capital the DfT also actively supports the work of Transport for London – a critical role in the build up to the 2012 Olympics. The various means of travel are largely provided by the private sector and it is essential for the good of the economy that growth and development here continues to be stimulated with minimum impact to the environment.

Following the promotion of the previous post holder, we are seeking a new Director General for Major Projects and London. As part of the Board you will also help drive forward the investment and efficiency agendas and deliver on such significant undertakings as Crossrail, Thameslink and the new High Speed rail link. You will fulfil a crucial leadership role, being responsible for some 170 staff and expenditure in excess of £3bn. The management of relationships at the most senior level with public and private sector providers is equally important.

You are already an experienced, successful and highly commercial leader with a track record of managing complex and demanding projects on a significant scale. You will have delivered large infrastructure projects with a range of diverse stakeholders and partners. You are collegiate in approach and recognise the chance to make a contribution that benefits millions of people.
