Job Summary
To develop practical, sustainable, value-creating long term resource depletion strategies which meet the organization’s long-term strategic objectives whilst adhering to safety and environmental standards. This specifically relates to carrying out studies to determine the most optimal underground mining methods
(post-open pit mining) for all Debswana Resources

 

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in Mining Engineering.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years post-graduate experience, of which the last five (5) years should have been in the design and scheduling of underground mines and underground study projects, and three (3) years at Managerial level in an underground production environment.
  • It is essential that the candidate should have taken the project(s) from design phase to implementation
  • Computer literate in the Microsoft Offi ce Suite, including MS Project.
  • Experience in underground mine planning software (e.g. Datamine, Whittle, GEMS, Mine2-4D, PCBC etc.).
  • Leadership Development Programs (e.g. MDP).
  • Presentation Skills.

Key activities

  • Interprets departmental objectives and needs and changes in the micro and macro environment and ensures resources are put in place to meet these in the medium to long-term.
  • Monitors and controls costs related to projects.
  • Determines the capacity of the resource to deliver in line with corporate strategy.
  • Develops long-term production plans in line with approved corporate strategy.
  • Evaluates the feasibility of mining additional ore sources and replacement/additional plants for sustainability of the business.
  • Designs suitable underground mining options for the various resources for trade-off against open pit mining.
  • Determines the optimal point for transitioning from open pit to underground mining.
  • Represent the owner during project studies, provide information to specialist designers and review and approve design solutions.
  • Provides information to the MRM section on resource extension requirements and timelines.
  • Provides information to treatment plant design teams on long-term ore-type mix for treatability evaluations
  • Establishes and manages relationships with specialist companies that provide mine planning tools and services.
  • Engages with team members working on various projects to create a strategic planning knowledge pool.
  • Develops and implements a system for skills and knowledge transfer to candidates in the mine planning route.
  • Trains and develops talent in underground mine design.
