Dean’s Excellence in Science PhD Scholarships for International Applicants

The Faculty of Science is offering a
limited number of prestigious postgraduate research scholarships to
academically outstanding international and domestic students wishing to
undertake a research doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in the Faculty of
Science. The scholarship package is awarded for three years, subject to
satisfactory progress, with a possible extension of up to six months.

The aim of the scholarship is to enable
and encourage academically able students from any nationality.
The University of Western Australia is
a research-intensive university in Perth, Australia that was established by an
act of the Western Australian Parliament in February 1911 and began teaching
students for the first time in 1913.
Applicants must meet the requirements
for entry to the nominated course including satisfying the requirements.

      stipend living allowance of $40,000 per annum

      travel/conference allowance of $5000 per annum

      research operating and submission costs allowance of $5000 per annum

      student single health cover (for international students)

    To be considered for the Dean’s
    Excellence in Science Ph.D. Scholarship applicants must satisfy the
    following criteria:
    Domestic Students
    • Meet
      the requirements for entry to the nominated course including satisfying
      the requirements
    • Be
      eligible to enrol or be enrolled as a full-time international student or,
      in exceptional circumstances and with the approval of the University, as
      a part-time domestic student in an HDR at the University by the date of
      commencement of the scholarship;
    • Be
      intending to enrol or be enrolled as an internal student based on a
      campus of the University for most or all of their period of candidature
      and scholarship tenure unless approval is granted for external enrolment
International Students
    • Meet
      the requirements for entry to the nominated course including satisfying
      the requirements
    • Have
      a bachelor’s degree with first class honours (H1) or equivalent
    • Be
      eligible to enrol or be enrolled as a full-time student in a higher
      degree by research (HDR) in an area of research concentration at the
      University upon commencement of their scholarship
    • Not
      have commenced an HDR prior to the year for which the scholarship is
      sought unless the applicant was unable to apply for a scholarship in the
      last selection round due to the timing of their enrolment;
    • Be
      a citizen of an overseas country, excluding New Zealand
    • Meet
      the University’s English language requirements for HDR scholarship
      holders
    • Not
      have completed a degree either at the same level as, or at a higher level
      than, the degree for which candidature is sought
    • Not
      be an overseas student who is currently on an Australian Government
      sponsored scholarship such as Australian Awards Development Scholarship
      seeking to apply for an IPRS immediately following the Australian Awards
      Development Scholarship funded study. Such candidates must meet the terms
      and conditions of these awards prior to applying for future funding. This
      applies to students under the Australian Sponsored Training Scholarships
      (ASTAS), the Equity and Merit Scholarship Scheme (EMSS) and the
      Australian Development Scholarships (ADS).

    outside the home country will often need to meet specific English
    language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.

Applicants for a Dean’s Excellence in
Science Scholarship are required to make contact with potential supervisors
before submitting their application.

Domestic applicants
Once a supervisor has been identified,
domestic applicants must complete and submit the online application for the Research Training Program (RTP)scholarships as advertised on the UWA website by the advertised
closing date (31 October 2018).
International
applicants
Step 1: International
applicants may complete the online enquiry form that helps us match your research interests with
potential supervisors.
Step 2: Once
a supervisor has been identified, International applicants must then complete
and submit the online application for the International Research Training Program (RTP) scholarships advertised on the UWA website by the
advertised closing date (31 August 2018). Follow the iAthena link in the above page to submit
your online application.
