Main Duties
and Responsibilities
• Accounting officer of the institute.
• Chief executive of the institute.
• Oversees the day to day management and administration of the operations and
affairs of the institute.
• Responsible for the initiation, obtaining ap
proval and implementation of
change in objectives, policies, strategy or organization of DMI.
• Ensures that accounting, financial, operational and administrative systems,
policies, guidelines, procedures and controls are adequate and effective
throughout the institute.
• ensures all matters pertaining to personnel, administration, finance and
development of the institute are performed efficiently and effectively.
• Endeavors to cause the image of DMI upheld high by enforcing up to date
teaching and quality standards.
• Ensures that various researches and consultancy activities are carried out.
• Is answerable to the Board of Governors.
Minimum
Qualifications
• A holder of PHD in a Maritime Discipline
• A holder of PHD in any field in addition to holding a Chief Mate or Second
Engineer Certificate of Competency.
• A holder of Master Mariner or Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency in
addition to holding a Masters Degree in a maritime related field.
Working Experience
Have academic and administrative experience of at least twelve (12)years, five
of which must be at higher management post in a reputable institution and
capability in the area of technical education and training.
Remunerations
DMI will offer competitive and attractive salary and other fringe benefits as
per Scheme of Service depending on qualification and experience.
Tenure of Office
The principal will be appointed for five (5) years term, renewable once upon
satistactory performance and a may be determined by the Board.
