The Southern Alberta Chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness
Society (CPAWS) is seeking a highly motivated, well organized,
resourceful, strategic and creative Education Director to join our
team in Calgary, Alberta. This is a full time position (37.5
hours/week) ideally starting this spring.

The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society is Canada’s voice for the
protection of parks and wilderness. In addition to our conservation
work, the Southern Alberta Chapter (CPAWS SAB) is also a leader in the
field of environmental education. Through our education programs, we
seek to create a community of knowledgeable, empowered citizens who
engage in stewardship and positive environmental action to conserve
ecosystems, wilderness and protected areas. Since 1997, we have
delivered over 100,000 action-oriented environmental programs to
schools, teachers and adult audiences in Alberta.

The Education Director position will report directly to the Executive
Director and be responsible for:
• Development and delivery our award-winning school education programs
• Coordination and management of the education department, including
program bookings, scheduling, tracking payment, and directing the
hiking program (training and management of our hiking guides)
• Maintaining agreements and permits, updating and implementing our
emergency response plan and taking charge of all waivers and liability
concerns associated with the program
• Program marketing and promotion
• Fund development: maintaining existing grants, researching new
opportunities, writing grants, all reporting and assisting in budget
planning for the department
• Evaluations and database management for the education program
• Revising and updating education programs accordingly to AB
curriculum, conservation issues and new scientific data
• Maintaining and coordinating all education program equipment
materials and files
• Managing volunteers and or education personnel involved in the program
• Building and growing relationships/partnerships with the education
community and looking for new opportunities for the education
department
• Creating an annual work plan
• Working with the Executive Director to ensure the education
department is in line with the overall CPAWS organization strategy at
the chapter and national level

The successful candidate will be a highly organized and efficient
individual with strong communication, teaching and writing skills who
can lead the education department, strategize and seize opportunities
to build and grow the department.

Position Requirements:
• At least 3 years of experience in the field of education or
environmental education
• Familiarity with the Alberta curriculum
• Experience in education program development and delivery
• Excellent public speaking skills and teaching abilities
• Strong leadership and management experience
• Excellent writing and organizational skills
• Fund development experience
• Dynamic and passionate personality, excellent people skills
• Strategic thinker and initiative
• Awareness of southern Alberta ecosystems and biodiversity and about
CPAWS conservation campaigns
• Strong organizational skills, initiative and ability to be self-motivated
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle, appropriate
liability insurance and criminal record check at time of hiring
• Ability to travel within Alberta for education programming if required
• Wilderness First Aid is an asset but NOT required
