Project background and description:
The Cowichan Green Community Society (CGC) has been awarded a one year contract
(June 2015 – June 2016) to coordin
ate Environmental Outreach services for the
Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). The goal is to provide interactive
public education and outreach on the following topics: waste reduction and
recycling, water sustainability, public transit, and sustainable
transportation. The outreach strives to build awareness and to motivate changes
that will lead to a more sustainable Cowichan.
We are seeking a part-time Environmental Outreach Assistant who will assist our
team to host public outreach booths and activities between August 2015 and June

Responsibilities:
• Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the Environmental Outreach Assistant
will engage with the public by hosting informative and interactive outreach
booths at public events, and by facilitating public presentations at larger
community events. A total of 9 events/presentations will be completed during
the contract term. The events/presentations will be determined by CGC staff.
• Transport display booth materials to events/presentations.
• Complete monthly reports on events/presentations attended.
• Complete training with CGC staff.
Qualifications:
• Background in ecology, conservation, and/or sustainability.
• Familiarity with regional recycling, waste, and organics systems, the
regional transit system, and local watersheds and aquifers.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Hold a valid driver’s licence and have access to a vehicle.
• Available on weekdays and weekends.
Working Conditions:
• The Educational Outreach Assistant will attend public (indoor and outdoor)
events throughout the Cowichan region.
• The Educational Outreach Assistant will be provided training at the onset and
throughout the contract term.
• Remuneration will be based on experience.
