Rwanda, together with the Rwanda Men’s Resour
Rwanda, together with the Rwanda Men’s Resour
ce Centre (RWAMREC) and Rwanda
Women’s Network (RWN) are running a project entitled lndashyikirwa, meaning
“agents of change,” funded by DFID Rwanda to empower women and engage
men towards the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV) in communities across
7 districts ( Bugesera , Rwamagana, Kayonza, Musanze, Burera, Rubavu and
Nyabihu). The project covers the period from August 2014 to August 2018:
lndashyikirwa
project focuses on GBV primary prevention and aims to reduce intimate partner
violence (IPV) as a primary outcome. It uses a gender synchronized approach to
bring about sustainable social change through the engagement of men and women
at the individual, family and community levels, to challenge harmful and
restrictive constructions of masculinity and femininity that drive inequality
leading to GBV. Interventions proposed aim to positively transform attitudes,
practices and social norms towards achieving more equitable gender power
relations, and thus gender equality. This includes going beyond awareness
raising to engage individuals and communities to become agents of change
towards achieving broader social change to prevent GBV.
