and the Province of Ontario to protect the natural
environment.  We also manage a number of parks for education and
recreation including Glen Eden Ski & Snowboard Centre, Crawford Lake,
Mountsberg Conservation Area, Rattlesnake Point, Mount Nemo, and Hilton
Falls. 

Job
Description:
  • Managing
    Live Native Animal Collection (including transfers, succession planning,
    training, housing, permitting, acquisitions, record management, onsite and
    offsite health care, feeding, documentation, and dispossession)
  • Development
    and teaching of educational programs (school, offsite, and special event);
    primarily (but not necessarily) those programs utilizing the resident
    native animal collection under the direction of the Coordinator –
    Educational Programming
  • Developing,
    implementing and maintaining best-practice procedures and duties at the
    Raptor Centre and for Raptor Centre Resource Interpreters
  • Developing
    and maintaining the Raptor Centre Standard Operating Procedures and
    pertinent documents such as the Raptor Acquisition Positioning Statement
  • Development,
    planning, and implementation of public special events and programs,
    primarily (but not necessarily) utilizing the resident native animal
    collection under the direction of the Coordinator – Educational
    Programming
  • Responsible
    for the hiring, training, evaluating, mentoring and supervision of
    contract and volunteer staff
  • Other
    relevant duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Related
    post-secondary diploma or degree in Animal Care, Biological science and/or
    comparable work experience in animal care environment
  • Minimum
    of 5 years work experience in animal care, avian husbandry and management
  • Excellent
    communication, public relations, organization, time management, and team
    skills
  • Demonstrated
    knowledge of safe handling, training, restraint, and medical care of
  • Raptors,
    including dietary and supplementary requirements, housing, and species-
    specific husbandry issues
  • Training
    in development and delivery of interpretive education programs,
    specifically
  • Those
    involving native wildlife
  • Able
    to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of
    internal and external partners
  • Able
    to provide a satisfactory criminal record check
  • Able
    to adapt to the daily challenges associated with the operation of an
    outdoor facility
  • Able
    to maintain professionalism in a fast-paced and challenging environment
  • Able
    to travel to a site not serviced by public transportation
Compensation
  • $50,026
    per annum based on 40 hours/week (negotiable upon skills and
    qualifications)
