Connecting power

A
microcontroller is often put into application in which is power may be less than
optional. Application power sources can include radio battery power, rectified
or roughly filtered AC, or generator output. This means that microcontrollers
will run with a variety of voltage inputs and interface to devices running at
different logic levels. Microcontrollers are designed to run in environment the
can be described as inhospitable and impossible for many electronic devices.

Fortunately
most microcontrollers will take variance in stride and work without complains.
The only issue to be considered during microcontroller’s application is the
decoupling of the power voltage of the poor voltage by using a 0.1ref, tantalum
capacitor as physically close as possible to the Vcc input pin. This will allow
the device to handle much greater 1/0 current transient without causing
inadvertent reset or data corruption. This simple capacitor will hide “a multitude
of sin”.
