Conclusion

This study dealt with the
knowledge of sickle cell disease among married couples of age 24 – 45 years in
Ozoro community of Isoko North Local Government Area.
In conclusion, sickle cell
disease is a chronic haemolytic disorder caused by homozygous inheritance of
abnormal haemoglobin called haemoglobin ‘S’ (Hbs). The disease burden is
enormous to the patient family and community. One potential weapon in its
prevention is health information and awareness among the populace. From the
questionnaire majority of the respondent were aware of the disease in school
(45%), 25% through health education programme, print and electronic media,
through parent and other medium like seminars, workshop etc.
