The Completion Engineer (CE) is responsible for designing, planning and executing completions on operator Tanzania’s wells. The CE liaises with the Well Test Engineer, subsurface personnel, drilling personnel and service company personnel in executing his role. He is responsible for designing sand face completions for
DSTs and permanent completions, for specifying equipment required both for completions used in well tests as well as completions for development wells and for providing technical support during tender exercises for completion equipment and services. The CE is responsible for carrying out risk assessments of completion operations and for identifying and implementing risk reducing mitigations as required.
Organisational Structure
This position reports to the Well Team Leader. Peers within the organization are Drilling Engineers and Well Test Engineers. The position will work closely with the subsurface team in developing and delivering the work scope.
Key Accountabilities
Primary Responsibilities
1. Design sand face completions fit for purpose for both short term well tests and for development wells.
2. Specify completion equipment and services and assist in procurement activities for such.
3. Inspect completion service company equipment and provide assurance that it is fit for service.
4. Coordinate and lead all completion planning activities among the different service companies involved and various operator stakeholders.
5. Coordinate rig site completion activities on behalf of the operator.
6. Assess completion service company personnel and provide assurance that they are qualified for the work they are intended to perform. Identification of risk reducing measures where skill gaps are identified.
7. Prepare detailed completion programs.
8. Prepare detailed completion AFE’s.
9. Conduct after action reviews and capture lessons learned.
Authority/Influence over Resources
The jobholder’s resources include his own expertise, service companies supporting the operation, subsurface personnel and functional experts in completions in operators office.
Internal/External Interaction
The jobholder works with the drilling engineers, the well test engineers, the subsurface team, functional experts in operators office, service companies and with his supervisor in developing programs, designs and delivering other tasks outlined in this document.
Time Horizon
The effectiveness of the completions the Completions Engineer is charged with planning and installing have an impact on well test success, on the productivity of development wells and on ultimate field recovery volumes. These items have commercial implications well into the hundreds of millions, if not billions, of dollars.
