University of Glasgow offers 22
scholarships for PhD students in an area of research linked to the college
of Social Sciences. Home/EU and international applicants are eligible to
apply as well as students already in their first year of a University of
Glasgow’s PhD. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible. The
scholarship will run for a maximum of three years full-time or 5 years
part-time commencing on September/October 2014. The application
deadline is 3rd February 2014.

Social  Sciences and  Urban Studies

Eligibility: Home/EU and international applicants are eligible to apply as well as
students already in their first year of University of Glasgow PhD. Both
full-time and part-time students are eligible.
Scholarship Open for International Students: UK/EU and international applicants can apply for these
scholarships.
Scholarship Description: Applications are invited for up to 22 Scholarships being offered by the
College of Social Sciences to study for a PhD in an area of
research. Home/EU and international applicants are eligible to apply as
well as students already in their first year of a University of Glasgow PhD.
Both full-time and part-time students are eligible.
Number of award(s): 22 PhD scholarships will be offered.
Duration of award(s): Scholarships will be offered for three years.
What does it cover? The scholarship will run for a maximum of three years full-time or 5
years part-time commencing on September /October 2014 and will provide:
-an annual bursary equivalent to the RCUK rate – £13,863 (£6931.50 part-time)
for 2014/15
– fees at the standard Home/EU or International rate
-a research support grant of £750 (£375 part-time) per annum
Selection Criteria: Applications will be shortlisted by a school selection panel using
the following criteria:
Out of 10 for academic record and references
Out of 10 for research proposal
Out of 5 for supervision and training
Notification: The
final selection will be made by a college selection panel and candidates will
be notified by Monday 31st March 2014.
How to Apply: Applicants not currently studying for a PhD at the University of Glasgow
must identify a potential supervisor prior to submitting an application, in
order to secure a reference. The researcher search tool is available to
