Classification of aged person

Although
old age has its general handicaps it will be unfair to consider all old people
as presenting a burden to the family. Therefore from the medical point of view,
old people can be considered under 5 categories:
1.     
The Elderly: This is an old person who is form capable of management his own life.
2.     
Elderly inferm: This is an old person with some physical defects which prevent him or
her from managing his affairs such a person will require constant help.

3.     
Elderly sick: This may be:
a.    
 With acute illness which will require
immediate reaction such a person may be become in film as a result of the illness.
He or she may recover and resume his business e.g. Simple fracture diarrheas
b.    
Long term
sick such a person  may recover fully or
may decline into a chronic case e.g. Tuberculosis visual problem
c.    
The chronic illness: Such a person require prolong care which cannot
remedied enough for him to return into active life and may be hospitalized
until his death, e.g. hypertension, arthritis
d.    
Elderly, psychiatric cases: This may require admission either in the hospital
or at home
e.    
Special cases: This includes the blind or the deaf.
